I've been reading the posts this morning and numerous poster point out that right now we could not beat ala.,ou, osu, ga. etc. right now. While I agree with that the truth is we don't have to beat those teams right now, we have to beat fla. st. in two weeks. Last year after the Syracuse game we couldn't have beaten any of those teams either and we know how that turned out. This is a new team with mostly freshmen and sophomores and if history has proven anything it's that this staff has us playing our best football in November and December. Rankings right now are truly meaningless. If we don't show improvement in the next few games then I'll worry but I really believe this team will refocus and improve.
Listen to what most of the talking heads have been saying since we beat A&M and Syracuse: "Clemson won't face anybody until the ACC Champ game or playoffs."
Not saying the players watch all that nonsense but we've been focused on the big games this year - not firing on all cylinders but the scores speak for themselves for the games that were SUPPOSED to be big measuring sticks for us.
I think Clemson would rise to the occasion if Ohio St, 'Bama, or any of the perceived juggernauts were coming to town or the Tigers were heading to their venue. Would we win? Idk but the team would probably play better than last night.
Right now, I think it's just the human aspect of the game creeping. We, as fans, are SPOILED ROTTEN - me too.
The big recruiting names are coming in, national champs, a returning QB who is only a sophomore and on every NFL's #1 pick list, best RB in the nation, freak WRs who can catch anything...Yeah, I can see the disappointment but we've also fallen for what the coaches do their best to get the players to do in NOT drinking the cool-aid and believing all you read about one's self/team.
We are very fourtunate for the time we live in as Clemson fans - heck, think of all the fans before us who didn't LIVE to see this program's success!
