Just proves they are very poor judges of good taste in uniforms.

I think the list should be: 1. Notre Dame 2. Alabama 3. Ohio State 4. Clemson

I'll be honest, I've always kinda thought Ohio State's uni's were lame.
Maybe it's me.

I kind of agree with them the purple should come out at least one more game per season. I know all purple is used for military appreciation but it would be fun to see something like Purple jerseys on white pants or the vintage "C" helmet for a game like Homecoming. I kike the way Florida wears the Vintage "F" helmet on games like homecoming.
Clemson has tweaked their uni a few times over the years. Anyone remember the Tiger striped collars during the West era and TB reversed the stripes in the pants? Can't remember but seems like they had the mostly white pants for a year or two when that was trendy too.

The writer is lazy and didn't do his homework on the purple uniforms, what the color purple symbolizes, and who they honor.

True but if memory serves correctly Clemson just started doing the all purple under Dabo? I know Tommy Bowden teams would wear purple pants on the road sometimes and the orange and purple combo for certain games at home.
I have to say though the purple jersey with white pants is my favorite look. That was sharp when they first did it in the early 90's under Hatfield for the NCState Game and the Citrus Bowl against Cal. Never been a fan of the purple pants.

There are a few teams ahead of Clemson that you could make an argument for, but we should still be somewhere in the Top 10.

Article ranks *iconic* unis, not best

I think this list is fair.
Our Tommy Bowden-era grab bag of combos with the piping really did us no favors.
Not until Dabo got his system implemented was there any cadence to our uni combos. NOW you can call them iconic, but in the grand scheme, the history of our uniforms don’t hold up to that of the teams ranked ahead on the list.
The teams ahead of us have rarely strayed from their uni combos. Even Oregon is ranked way down at #20 — their uniforms are some of the best, but lack a classic identity which would qualify as iconic.
Even orange britches are newER, but they would come out whenever a coach/players saw fit for big games. Dabo’s championship britches are iconic, but not historically so.
The author does give credit saying our brand has soared under Dabo and that the orange and white unis are some of the nation’s best.
50 years from now in the annals of CFB, we’ll rank right at the top of every category/list a college football fan or writer can imagine — and they’ll still hate it, but they won’t be able to deny us forever!

While our helmet and Paw logo are “iconic” because they

are instantly recognizable and they have not changed for the past half century, our uniforms” ... honestly ... went through some pretty embarrassing iterations in the 1990s.
By definition, ICONIC things do not change.

Thinking Clemson’s number 1 and not even close.
Iconic and ugly must be synonymous in some of these picks.

The Michigan helmet design is a prime example ... its iconic

but it’s weird and kinda ugly.
All they did was recreate the reinforcement seams of old leather helmets with paint stripes and then never changed it at all forever.
Today it’s unchanged, instantly recognizable and therefore ... iconic.

It’s hard to call our uniforms “iconic” when we wore navy blue on our uniforms

for many years, despite purple being our historical school color.
We’ve also used different shades of orange and never settled on consistent uniform combos until the last 15 years or so.
There is no debating our cool uniforms, but as others have said they don’t rank near the top of the iconic list.

Wonder if anyone knows how the blue got integrated in the first place?
On another note I love black cleats as well.

I mean, it makes sense and I agree with another poster that, at this point, we're still new money in the overall view of things.
Heck, IMO it's going to take sustained success after Dabo leaves for us to really cement our place.
Bama has done it; Ohio State has done it; and for us to be a part of those A+ programs we're going to have to do it too.
I also agree with another poster that we should break out the purple one more game a year (like homecoming). I'm a big fan of the Purple jersey & white pants (also purple pants and white jersey combo too) so that'd be neat to see.
Despite what folks think, we can use our other school colors to be creative with uniform combinations and not lose our identity.
Personally, I'd love to see a purple trim on the orange stripes because our uniforms are Bama-lite until we break out the orange pants.
