I think the playoff expansion is kind of ridiculous because the reality is most years of the CFP there are pretty clear 1, 2 and 3 teams and then a scrum of possibilities for number 4. And the number 4 team almost always gets blown out in the first round. I would probably give #4 to Southern Cal this year. Yes, they have 2 losses but one of them was in the Pac12 championship game. Bama and OSU didn't have to play the 13th game and risk the loss.

Who do you have as the 4th team?

2 loss USC?

2 loss Clemson?

No 2 loss team should be in a 4 team playoff.
