Penn Wagers said on Bobby Hartin that Renfrow TD was illegal

Jan 13, 2017, 2:37 PM

I believe I heard College Football Official Penn Wagers say that our receiver initiated the contact and that it was an illegal pick. Did anyone else hear that interview this week?

Jan 13, 2017, 2:39 PM

If it was illegal a flag would have been thrown. They grabbed Artavis BTW.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

defender made a big mistake putting his arms around him

Jan 13, 2017, 7:07 PM

if he would have ran through him, the flag might have come out.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've got it recorded and watched the play about 10 times...

Jan 13, 2017, 8:30 PM

the DB wrapped his arms around Scott's shoulders and threw him to the ground...should have been defensive holding

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Impact on the outcome of the game = Zero

Jan 13, 2017, 2:40 PM

There have been officials who specifically said that it was NOT illegal.

There were several plays that were questionable throughout the game.

If a Bama fan wants to think it was illegal and they were robbed, have at it. Oh, who am I kidding...if a GAMECOCK wants to think it was illegal and they were robbed, have at it.

Thought it was interesting that different referees can see

it so differently when it seemed obvious that the defender initiated the contact and tackled our receiver.

Re: Impact on the outcome of the game = Zero

We lost to Maryland on a pass in the endzone that went right through the receivers hands , but
the ref. called it a TD and I thought Danny was going to jail .

Watch it on youtube , now that was a bad call .

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There were also two penalties on Maryland...

Jan 13, 2017, 2:52 PM

neither of which were called (the play clock expired before the snap there was movement on the OL prior to the snap).

I listened to that Interview:

Jan 13, 2017, 9:29 PM

I was listening to that interview because I was waiting on wife in the SUV at a DR. appt. The way I heard it was he gave 3 different scenarios with defense verse offense Contact & Neutral zone Violations. He stated what the Refs look for. He never claimed the call one way or the other. BTW: He is an ACC replay official now and drives to Greensboro for the Saturday Games. The first ever trial Game was with a Clemson Game (I believe in 2015). Penn is a straight shooter from all the Interviews I have heard. I had a few conversations when I ran into him a few times at SE wildlife functions, but he was a SEC Official then and did not discuss Ref Issues then :)!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and there are other impartial officials who disagree...

Jan 13, 2017, 2:49 PM

so Penn Wagers and his opinion can KMA. He's just playing-up to his #### lover audience and host.

As a side note, isn't Penn Wagers the $EC official who is hated by literally every team in the $EC because he is so grossly incompetent. He's the Ron Cherry of the $EC.

His responses to controversial calls always seem to line up with the opinion of Bobby Hartin if that tells you anything. I smell a ****lover.

Re: Penn Wagers said on Bobby Hartin that Renfrow TD was illegal

Jan 13, 2017, 3:02 PM

Penn Wagers is on Bobby Hartin because he got fired from the SEC and doesn't know the rules of football.
Had Wagers followed the rule book -- the SEC admitted that he did not --
Sadly he's the neighbor to my parents and there's nothing friendly about it.
I wouldn't let his opinion ruin the fact that the Tigers won on a well designed and perfectly executed play call.

What do you expect from a show/station ran by gamecocks. Seriously Hartin and Mike Legg make everyone on WCCP sound like Dan Patrick and Jim Rome.

Yep

And the head ref of this game (the guy with the big arms) has already discussed why it was legal:

No laundry on the field, Legal!

Seriously, it was a pick. It was a brilliant call. If the Zebras miss it, touch down. If they call it, we still kick and tie it up. If the play was run 10 times, the zebras might catch it 2.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Was he standing on the goal line during the play?

Jan 14, 2017, 11:03 AM

The official standing there on the goal line didn't see it that way. Was Wagers impeaching the integrity of the officiating crew on the field or those in the booth!

My replay review from both of the side angles respective of the goal line on that play shows that both the defender's arms were touching the back of Renfro's jersey when contact was made by the front of both bodies. In other words, the defender wrapped his arms around the WR.

Any call that could have accurately been made would must been 'pass interference,' but not on the WR.
