Pecan is definitely pronounced pee-can. I never heard of drinking out of a beer-kahn.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he probably eats chocolate kahn-dy too

Nov 23, 2017, 11:08 PM

Maybe he's from "Kahn-ada" or something.

There's one proper way to say "c-a-n".

I always thought it was funny that the same person that will say Pcan pie will say butter pkahn ice cream 9 out of 10 times

PEE-kahn

Heard a California guy once claim that almonds still growing on trees are called "am-monds" and are only called "all-monds" after they are harvested.

I'm not sure I've heard people say PEE can outside of SC.

That's because they are not educated. It's "can" - always has been, always will be.

My best buddy (from Barnwell) at Clemson heard me say "p-kahn" and said "Bo... it's p-can." I argued a bit and he asked "do you have p-can trees in your back yard?"
I said "no" (I'm from western NC) and he said, "well, then I get to say how it's pronounced, 'cause we got em everywhere."
I'm good with that and it's been "p-can" for me ever since.
Also (using the same argument for the benefit of any of our yankee Tiger friends) it's Appalachian with a short "a" like "apple", not a long "A".

It's p can in Georgia. Neighbors paren't from Kansas were visiting them a few thanksgiving's ago and asked my wife if she knew where to get some pekahs, she told them no she didn't but she could tell them where to get some p cans. They got a kick out of it.

I heard an argument once about how crappy(the fish) was pronounced. Some argued “crappy” others argued “croppy”

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s definitely pronounced pee-can

Nov 23, 2017, 8:52 PM

if you want to be incorrect. ;)

Otherwise, it’s puh-kahn.

Its pee can. BTW people who say pekahn also say on-velope instead of in-velope. If you ask me on-velope is getting pretty close to north of the sweet tea line if you get my drift.

Nov 23, 2017, 11:12 PM

who said it wrong (pee-conn) and wanted to fight about it. She wasn't from around here.

So I started calling her "Lee-Onn". She fixed her problem quick.
