Outside of the SEC and Big10, who's the best of the rest?

Jul 3, 2022, 1:54 PM

If a 3rd conference were formed from the "best of the rest", could it have a competitive TV contract to the ones being talked about in the SEC and Big10 ($100 per school per year)?

Football is leading this parade so its weight will count substantially more than basketball. My best guess would be the following 16 teams...

1. Clemson
2. FSU
3. Miami
4. Notre Dame
5. Stanford
6. Oregon
7. VT
8. West Virginia
9. Washington
10. UNC
11. NC ST
12. OK State
13. Baylor
14. Texas Tech
15. Colorado
16. Louisville

This list has some major media markets (Florida, California, Texas, North/South Carolina, Colorado, etc) and some major football powers. What are your thoughts? Did I miss any big ones (There are a few on the cusp)? Could this conference compete with the Big10 and SEC media deals? Would this be the deepest conference of the 3 major ones?

Re: might as well at GT, Cincy, BC and Pitt to make 20.

Just saying.

I'd probably take Arizona State before BC...

Like the Cincy, Pitt and GT picks though.

You're dreaming if you think this is even close to the other 2 conferences lol

The other two have some sh!t teams. SCAR, Vandy, Missouri...

Not something that would happen but there are some solid teams in that mix.

if these are the best available the ACC should invite West Virginia, Ok State, Texas Tech, Colorado. Stanford, Oregon, Washington are all too far from ACC teams. And I think Texas Tech brings more than Baylor. This should allow the ACC to get a new TV deal and compete with solid football teams

I think this works and allows the ACC to stay and allows Clemson(and other ACC schools) to not have to jump. It does have staying and growing power.

Pretty clean east / west split there to boot along with some passionate fan bases.

What you're suggesting is the equivalent of the XFL or the USFL. Ain't buying it. The Tigers have to move to either the BIG or the SEC.

I think you're vision is clouded by media hype...

Jul 3, 2022, 4:21 PM

Those 16 schools listed have huge brands. And there are no bottom feeders like what make up 25% of the other two leagues.

Wait, you mean MS State, Ole Miss, Vandy, Indiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, Kentucky, and Northwestern wouldn't form a power conference that would strike fear into the hears of the rest of CFB??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

EXACTLY my point! Thank you.***

The funny thing is, all of those schools you just named have more conference titles than U of SC.

SCAR definitely belongs in that group***
