Our OL is terrible but have hope…

DJ will be fine. Our OL is awful but young. Have hope, they will improve. 2021 might not be our year but the talent is there. This is actually the most talent we have had in 20 years on the OL. It’s just young and inexperienced. We missed on OL classes until recently and it is showing. OL takes time.

As a kid Watched the Tigers go 5-5 in 1980, Whip the coots in last game to go 6-5 then 12-0 and win the Natty the next season. Anything is possible.

I believe we need to make changes in the coaching of our oline? I think Caldwell was a great coach, but the game is moving in a different direction at this point. The zone scheme is weak and not effective against average d lineman or let alone good d lineman.

Good morning TigerRampage. Everyone can understand your sentiments about the OL, given the overall protection problems and frequent presence of Syracuse DL in our backfield. But if you look at it, outside of some early poor play from the G position, the G's and the T's played pretty darn well. Unfortunately, instead of the C play being the cherry on top for the OL overall, it was the weak link that broke the chain. We must try to be mindful that our C was playing his first meaningful snaps, and let's face it, he is far from being a physical brute. He kind of gets in the way of the opposing D-tackle, then then gets pushed aside like an abused child. Hopefully he'll get better leverage against Pitt (but I'm not placing any bets on that), and we can figure out how to get a TE in motion such that he is close to the C position when the ball gets snapped on 3rd and long. Either the TE blocks when the defender blows past the C, or perhaps (fingers crossed), we occasionally use a shovel pass to the TE as the opposing D-tackle barrels in on DJ.

OK, now I'll try to sober up.

If you're a top tier program, you should NEVER have to start a freshman offensive lineman. Just shows how bad we really are at that position group
