Elliott's presser just solidifies the fact

Oct 18, 2021, 4:46 PM

that no matter how bad DJ plays they will never, ever bench him.

Enjoy the rest of the season watching below-average QB play and probably another 2-3 losses.

Hopefully, Klubnik will come in and give them no choice like Trevor did with KB.

Pretty sad they are going to ride a player who is clearly struggling to whatever record we end up with.

While I definitely agree he’s struggling, what has puma shown you to make you think he won’t look like the absolute dumpster fire he’s been in every non spring game setting we’ve seen?

My question back to you:

Oct 18, 2021, 4:53 PM

What has DJ done to make you think Taison couldn't do better?

I mean at this point there isn't too much he would have to do to be better than DJ has been.

If DJ were truly getting better each week there wouldn't be any argument from anyone, but to keep being told by the staff that he is getting better when the numbers don't back it up is getting old.

Re: My question back to you:

Oct 18, 2021, 4:54 PM

I agree that’s a fair point and I don’t necessarily even disagree with you at all. I just know what I’ve seen out of TP and it’s been ugly

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know what I've seen from DJ

Oct 18, 2021, 7:21 PM

Most of it has been ugly, too.

...starting with the Pick 6 in Game 1.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I can only think of one group who would have seen it..

Oct 18, 2021, 7:29 PM [ in reply to My question back to you: ]

The coaches. We should get their input.

but they clearly don’t know how to succeed without generational talent.

I’m speaking about Dabo, Elliott, and Streeter.

Venables has shown that he can adapt and innovate. The offensive coaches, not so much based on this season.

agreed. In the past, the talent was winning the games - not the coaches.

Like that time they coached us to the NC game with Kelly Bryant?

Tell me more about that.

We did make the playoffs at least

Without generational talent at QB, which is exactly the point.

With generational talent at rb and venables’ wrecking crew

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I heard our D was #2 in scoring D this season…

Oct 18, 2021, 5:18 PM

And we had that same RB last season and didn’t win a NC. Also had that RB in 2019.

That tells me a generational RB is not the missing piece?

Without generational talent at QB (K.Bryant) and at WR (D.Cain and Ray Ray ... too many drops) and (super good but not yet 'generational' as a true freshman) T.Etienne. No doubt, the 2017 D was generational. But despite the 2017 O not being super duper, the 2017 O-Line was terrific.

The 2021 O-Line has not been ready for H-1 of this season, and won't be as good as the 2017 O-Line. But hopefully H2 of the 2021 season will show that the O-Line has finally gelled (fingers crossed that H.Rayburn returns to action against Pitt).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I stand corrected, playoffs…

Oct 18, 2021, 5:22 PM

So making the playoffs isn’t success? And I heard we were “exposed” in 19 and 20. Both of those years we had generational QBs and a great RB. Sounds like out coaches can’t coach, regardless of who they are coaching, except the two years they got lucky and won it all.

At least our football coach can recruit generational

talents, a lot of them. Still waiting on a first round talent in basketball, something every Clemson coach going back to Tates Locke has produced with the exception of our current coach and Larry Shyatt

First off KB was no TL or DW for sure he played better than dj has up to this point and that’s not even an argument … KB had some great games and IMO got wore down through the season running him so much , but to say dj is playing even close to Kb did that year to this point is laughable

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who said DJ is close to KB?

Oct 18, 2021, 7:03 PM

JK said our offensive coaches can’t win without generational talent. Was KB generational talent in your book?

Don't let's facts get in the way of Keller's hate for Dabo ruin his/her narrative.

In 2017, Clemson was top 5 in all defensive stats, including allowing 13 points a game (second fewest in the country), Travis Etienne (who was averaging 7.2 yards per carry), the best offensive line Clemson's ever had, and 6 NFL wide receivers. Also only played 3 ranked teams all season. Literally anyone could win the ACC and have a 12-1 record with that talent. The fact is, one of only two legitimate teams Clemson played shut the offense down and we had 188 total yards.

@Judge Keller, At QB your speaking of? There have been all types of examples at other skilled positions. Renfrow was a walk-on, ETN was a really good high school back, but what they turned into in college was generational. Elliott, Streeter, and Swinney had a part in their growth.

Absolutely correct! Venables has performed with whatever hes had available. He is the best coach on this staff and it's not even close!. Elliot should give him half his salary this year!

Do any of you have one example of an athlete at this level of play returning to the field 5 months after tearing their Achilles heel. I doubt one exist. Everyone on this board is a know it all, but there is zero chance TP is healthy to play at this level so quickly.

Re: Elliott's presser just solidifies the fact

Oct 18, 2021, 7:05 PM

As the season passes and things get worse, everyone is a expert on what is wrong and how to correct it. Count me in. However, over the last few weeks, I have come to the conclusion [ in my mind anyway] that our problems have a root in one problem and one problem only.
Look at our coaching staff and how nearly every critical coaching role has bee replaced over the past 3-4 years - with mostly CU grads and former players. We have a tight end coach, running back coach, quarterback coach with no coaching experience. I like Elliott but have to put him in same category as when Scott left, Elliott was left on his own and dropped his role as running back coach. Boyd, Grisham, Streeter and more... I love Dabo but my fear is he is so loyal to his players and coaches he will be stubborn at any admission of fault or disposition for change. I also think this problem has existing for nearly three years but the coaching deficiency was masked by generational players such as Trevor, ETN, and great receivers. The exposure during these past years was not apparent playing mediocre ACC teams but getting blown away by OSU and LSU. ACC is up this year and we will be very lucky to not have a couple more loses. Hope I am wrong.
