None of this comes a shock to a lot of us. We were exposed

Sep 27, 2021, 3:37 PM

by O310 St. last season. TL and ETN carried the offense on their backs but ultimately O Line and play calling was exposed for what it is---trash.

If you subtract the offensive yardage from the SC State game, I believe we would be ranked as the third worst offense in the NCAA through 3 games.

To be fair, if using that as a measuring stick, you’d need to remove all the yardage gained from every gimme game.

Our offense is garbage, period. Our players are as good

Sep 27, 2021, 3:59 PM

and as talented as anybody's in the conference (I'd say quite a bit better) without question. Even our O-line, which is a clear weakness (again), is as good from a raw talent/ability standpoint as just about any other ACC school's. Yet our offensive output and execution is at the very bottom. Mind blowing that there can be that kind of disparity between talent and result. The epitome of doing less with more.

Yes. I'm beginning to know how it must have felt to be a Jawja fan the last 40 years.

Not so sure.

I see lousy technique amongst some senior linemen. Is that coaching or miss on evaluation?

We've gone from a school that proudly did more with less to one that does a lot less with more than just about anybody (at least on offense). Yet we are supposed to believe its all on the players? Sure.

Yep. I think the difference really showed for me when I saw the LSU offensive scheme and the way Bama’s has progressed.

Bama just does not have talented receivers they seem to wide open about 30% of the time. That is scheme. And a semblance of a running game.

I don’t know, I follow Clemson as closely as anyone, and fully understand the drop off associated with the loss of ETN and especially Amari. I thought the playcalling was actually quite good the last couple of years. Situational playcalling As well as going after the opponents weaknesses. The cluster that is this year’s offense seems to be something different. Mainly lack of focus, lack of execution and lack of attention to detail. not doing the little things correctly, poor blacking, poor routes, silly penalties, poor ball security, poor leadership . I think the team just grew fat and happy and thought they were invincible. Georgia put them in a state of shock and just can’t seem to recover, and the coaches don’t know what to do. It’s really shocking from the perspective of a Dabo fan, which I am, to see such a discombobulated mess on the offense of side of the ball. Loss of confidence equates the loss of the will to win , that is where we are.

What influence covid or practice limitations?

Sep 27, 2021, 10:12 PM

There is no question we are underperforming, but I see a lot of teams underperforming and executing their offense—and special teams—really bad.

In fact, I only see a handful of teams that look to be consistent, even though we are now in the second quadrant of the season. Teams should be performing more consistently, but many are still rotating QBs, missing chip shot FGs, dropping TD passes, missing blocks, getting called for huge numbers of penalties, etc.

I’m willing to be corrected, but I think that covid limitations and new NCAA guidelines on the number and nature of practices is really hurting us. As much as it has hurt everyone (except Alabama, it seems), we seem to need the reps more than everyone else.

By all accounts from former players, our offense is fairly complex and usually takes a lot of reps in order to function smoothly; this year we are way behind schedule for development without a soft season schedule to buy the extra time and without once-in-a-“generation QB/RB to pull our fat out of the fire.

Maybe TE just didn’t want to—or was told not to—simplify anything. I dunno.

As I’ve said recently, I’m not sure Dabo and Elliott know how to fix this.

Sep 27, 2021, 10:58 PM [ in reply to Re: None of this comes a shock to a lot of us. We were exposed ]

Not because they aren’t good coaches, but because they have never had to do something like this.

For the first time, they are having to overcome with game planning and scheme, and not just exemplary talent.

Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Mike Williams, Tee Higgins, and Jordan Leggett compensate for a lot of schematic deficiencies. Not having to worry as much about that in the past is coming back to bite us right now.

I believe our coaches will ultimately figure it out, but there is a reason why nothing has changed over the course of this season so far.

Can we at least try a new quarterback? The only play he was in on, we scored and Shipley would still be running.

Our WRs can't seem to get open or block very well. Don't we have a new WR coach (TG) also this year?

Ridiculous comparison. Against OSU, we gave up 49 points and scored 28.
