OT....New TV purchase OLED vs QLED vs etc...

Our old TV is on the way out so I will need to buy a new TV very soon. I know nothing about the new technology except that the OLED screens look very good.
In my limited research I see that I basically can buy a OLED, QLED, and an LED screen. OLED seems to be more expensive but is it worth the extra money? We will need a 65 inch.
Thanks

Sounds like you have done your research, so now, just go and get yourself a new TV. As you have also probably learned here on T-Net, not many share the same opinion, so just go and get what you can afford, Period!!!
Just make sure that whatever you get, that it's a smart TV!!!!!

We bought a Samsung and are very well pleased. Went to Sam's and looked at the ones they had on and picked out the one with the best picture.

Samsung is hard to beat. I think all TVs now are smart TVs . You certainly want to get a smart unit.

There is OLED and then there is the rest. Period.
OLED diodes emit the light themselves so when it is off... it is black. Also, you don't lose vision as you go to the side. Movement is very smooth. Because of the way they work, the OLED is likely to have a much longer life than other panels.
All that said...
OLED is very expensive in relation to regular QLED or LED or whatever. That is because of the failure rate in manufacturing. But when they work... they work great.
No matter what the brand name is on the TV, OLED panels are ONLY made by LG. Different companies put different electronics behind it, but the panel comes from LG.
My current TV will not die or I would have one.

OLED is the best. No question about it..

LG has let other companies ..i think visio and samsung..use their technology..but they still charge a premium.
So..Is the juice worth the squeeze?
My led tv is like 8 yrs old... it is slow as dirt, cant network worth a darn, can't run some apps..like espn.. and certainly doesn't have the best screen compared to TVs now adays.. but it is paid for.
Lastly.. these sites have great return policies..but IMO..I would still buy from a store. The hassle of having to box up a 65 inch tv and then send it back is a total PITA

My suggestions (In order)
- Stick with LG, Vizio, Samsung. - Get a TV with 120hz refresh rate. 240 is even better but really much harder to find. - Smart TV - I wouldn't pay extra for the 8k yet. Simply not worth it now, 4K will do you just great for the next several years.
Personally, I think LG has the best picture right now, and I own a Vizio and a Samsung. If I was going to by a new TV (I've been researching lately) I would buy the LG 65" NanoCell 85 Series LED 4K UHD. Love the picture quality and, they're on sale right now in most places with very high reviews.

I have a Samsung and have no idea if it's OLED, QLED, etc. What I do like is that using my wireless network, I can project my laptop screen directly to the TV. For example, if I am streaming a baseball game on the laptop, I can switch screens to the Samsung very easily. If I am looking at anything (spreadsheet, web site, etc.) on the laptop, it can be switched directly to the Samsung.
I also have two "smart" Vizios and cannot do that.

Tv.
U are correct. Some TVs are smarter than others. Tv ain't nothing but a giant cell phone. They all have different operating systems and hardware. Some better than others.
But..ur visio should let you mirrow, stream, cast, or smart view..or something. You just have to figure out what app is required to cast from ur device to the TV.
I have 1 tv that uses mirrow cast and one used smart view that later changed to wifi direct. Then u have the different capabilities of things like the fire stick. Roku, apple TV, and chromecast.
Either way ..u should be able to use your visions th ed same way
