This whole "Beat a team with a winning record" thing is a

Oct 28, 2012, 10:32 AM

bunch of crap. NO ONE IN AMERICA can beat a team with a winning record until week 3 based on the logic people use.

If beating a 4-3 team and making them 4-4 means you haven't beat a team with a winning record than so does beating a 1-0 team.

If we are going to EYEBALL rank the polls than why should we be concerned with opponents RECORDS when it comes to how our season is going?

I'll grant you we haven't played a tough schedule, but we are penalized because Auburn and VT aren't living up to their preseason expectations?? Where is the logic in that??

We've done all we can do- including going on the road and letting a top 5 team off the hook which is the only blemish we have. If the polls and BCS don't recognize it then oh well.

I hope the team gets a huge chip on their shoulder and starts beating teams into the ground. Make ESPN talk about you. It's the Oregon theory and after enough time you will start at the top and have a shot at the title.

oregon suffers from this as well..

Oct 28, 2012, 10:45 AM

they have destroyed every team they have played this year.but they keep getting the well they havent played anyone shaft.but bama who also hasnt played anyone deserves to be number one because they have lined up and destroyed everyone they played.its a double standard

If Oregon wins out, i definitely want to see them in the title. With all due respect to ND ad KSU, i think Oregon has the best chance to dethrone the SEC.

COLLEGE: A three-year starter at strong safety for Clemson, finished his career with 234 tackles and 11 interceptions.

same bama's defnes matches up well..

Agree, i feel like ND is basically a poor man's Bama. At this point, assuming Bama is 1/2 of the NC game, in order of best chance to beat Bama, i think it's Oregon, KSU, ND. Colin Klein has been VERY impressive.

I don't get how a team with two loses is anywhere near the top 10. I don't care if it's USuC or not. The loss itself should hurt especially if margin of victory is not going to be taken into account.

The system is flawed on both sides. You have the coaches poll which I give no credit because there's no way a coach can watch all of these games and give an informed opinion.

Then you have the computer rankings which are basically a black box and don't take enough into account. Margin of victory being the missing component. I only say that since they consider who you're playing. An LSU team that barely beats Auburn and some school named Towsen should get penalized for that.

This is how the SEC stays relevant in the current system. All of the "top" teams get elevated on hype and a loss to one another doesn't hurt as much because of the opponent's "ranking". Meanwhile, the SEC doesn't play a meaningful OOC game. I'll admit that the top team in the SEC has been tough, but that doesn't mean the conference is tough "top to bottom". Look at the SEC East. The "top" teams just beat each other and barely have an offense to speak of. UGA almost lost to Kentucky. KENTUCKY. Then UGA goes to what's basically a UF home game and beats the Gators. Come on. Let's not even discuss the SEC West. Besides Alabama it's basically a ghost town. TAMU is making more noise than the rest of the teams in the west.

exactly its the sec illusion..

Oct 28, 2012, 10:47 AM

the teams are ranked high preseason and play no one to start the season.so when they get to the conference games they beat each other who are ranked high due to bs preseason polls.thus giving the illusion that they beat quality opponents.the sec is the only conference that you can play around 4-5 top ten teams in a season.

I feel the same way. Clemson has no control how the teams on their schedule play. Before the Auburn game all of the talk was about how good their defense was. That hasn't proven to be true, but that's not Clemson's fault. This was supposed to be, "Bud Foster's best defense ever." They haven't been dominant this season as projected. Had they not lost to Pitt and Cincy, our game with them could have easily been a top 20 matchup. Clemson can't control that Mayland had one quarterback transfer, and three are out for the season, and haven't done well as a result. Granted, I think considering where they are and what's happened to them they have done well to get the number of wins they have now. Clemson can't help that Georgia Tech's defense is awful this season. Clemson has beaten the bad teams they've played, and that's all you can ask for. They can't win games for their opponents so they'll have better records.

also happens in high school ball..

Oct 28, 2012, 10:52 AM

3A playoffs.southside high school is 4-6 and they got at large bid into playoffs.while dreher who is 7-3 got left out.due to the points system.the dreher kids busted their tail working out in the summer and playing and winning games.but get told they cant be in the playoffs over a 4-6 team is bs.

I agree. I think Oregon could have been averaging 80 points per game if it were necessary for them to win. As crazy as that sounds. I also think their defense is better than it's given credit for, which is why they've been winning all of their games before halftime.
