2014 Defense.....

Mar 14, 2014, 10:13 AM

I have to admit, I'm already starting to drink the kool-aid about this defense. I think most could agree that the line will be very solid, if not dominate. The LBs should be strong as well, especially if Steward steps up. The question mark in my mind has been the secondary. But adding Baker and Alexander to the mix (and I think they both could be starting early in the season), and with the snaps Kearse got last year, I think we are poised to have a very solid overall defense. Hopefully Blanks can come back strong too and help in the nickel and safety spots as well.

GO TIGERS!!!

I'm hearing the secondary is gonna be legit

Mar 14, 2014, 10:17 AM

I think we'll see..

CB - Alexander/Edmond
CB - Peters/Baker (Baker or Tank for UGA)
S - Kearse/Johnson
S - Smith/Green/Wiggins
Nickel/SAM - Blanks or Wiggins

I think wiggins could also start at corner. He is by far one of the best tacklers in the secondary.

Agreed, but I think he's needed more at Nickel or safety for

Mar 14, 2014, 10:28 AM

that very reason.

Yea. I was hoping Kearse and Green would start at safey and Alexander and Wiggins at corner. That would give us a big physical secondary with a lot of speed and great ball skills. I think the thing that killed us the last several years in the secondary was ball skills, they couldn't catch or find the ball.

What makes you think

Baker could be starting early,or at all, this season?
He had a pretty good week of Spring Camp, but Peters and Jenkins have both played many snaps in several big games. Peters will probably be our top CB this year. Jenkins and Mack appear to be 2 and 3.
Not knocking Baker by any means, but he hasn't done anything yet to make us think he could be a starter. I'd guess he will be #5 or #6 behind the 3 I mentioned and Edmonds and Tank.

Peters has to sit out the UGA game.

Jenkins is injured and missing spring camp...

Mar 14, 2014, 10:28 AM [ in reply to What makes you think ]

that plus Alexander is more talented... Baker is just plan fast and that may give him the edge over peters a few games into the season.

Well, info from the coaches watching him practice for one...

"Every time I look up, Adrian Baker's making a play...getting an interception," Swinney said. "Technique-wise, he's as good as anybody we've got - playing with off-hands and things like that. And he finishes plays - he gets his hands on balls.

But then again, what do the coaches know? ;)

again, that's a week of spring practice, mostly in shorts.

he may be a good one in time. But, he's never seen live bullets and we have guys that have seen live bullets from QB's like Shaw, Miller, Murray, Manuel, Winston, etc. Those 2, plus Mack are who I'd put my $$ on. And, yes, I totally get that Mack has never played in college, either.

Oh well, it's probably not worth dwelling on. I just put very little stock in Dabo comments from spring practice.

One improvement will make our def go from good to dominant
