couple of thoughts on Riley to USC...

1. He will win there. Quickly. The move makes sense for him, b/c it is going to be an easier path to championships. His scheme will rule the PAC, much like he did at OU for so long.
2. It's interesting how these things happen timing wise. If OU wins yesterday, they would be playing again next week for the Big 12 title, and an outside shot at the CFP. There would be no announcement.
Makes you wonder how long this has been going on.

Great point on #2 Snowtown. And I generally agree with you on #1.
Re: timing, I’m guessing SC had reached out to his agent pretty good early on to gauge potential interest. I am curious to know when the real momentum started though. Had they won Bedlam, the Big12 (in their final year?) and somehow backed into the playoff does this move still happen? I’m guessing so but def makes one wonder.

Yeah, I would think, re: month or more. Maybe these things come together quicker than I’d guess but I think you’re prob right. I wouldn’t balk if someone told me it had been in the works for a couple months.
I’ve long believed there’s a big (and increasingly widening) difference between the public market and what gets discussed among agents, big program ADs, boosters, etc. when it comes to head coaching hires at bigtime programs. When a big money school dumps their coach in the middle of the season the way USC and LSU did, it has to be to get ahead on discussions in that non-public market. Who’s in play, who’s not looking but could potentially be swayed, the latter or which is where I think Lincoln Riley was. I think a fair amount of it happens before the coach is fired because I just can’t believe these schools fire a coach and then start their search/vetting for a replacement. If they do, that’s equal parts arrogant and poor prep. This year more than many, there’s a lot of big jobs open. When Mora Jr went to UConn the dominos…

And he won't have to make the move to the SEC where OU will be a bottom feeder. Bet the OU AD is rethinking his "switching conferences" strategy now. He may get fired before this is over.
