No one stick at 3.

Re: OL recruiting board

Jul 24, 2015, 7:53 AM

Doubt it as we only have nine coming back next year. BTW we are currently at two so how are we sticking at three?

Re: OL recruiting board

Jul 24, 2015, 7:55 AM

I'm adding in simpson. 12 is a good number at OL. I see sterling Johnson moving over so that's 13. You don't wanna load your team down with OL. They can't play ST or be moved to other postions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

why

Jul 24, 2015, 9:02 AM

do you think Sterling Johnson is moving to OL? From everything I'm hearing he is done a great job at DT.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: why

Jul 24, 2015, 9:05 AM

Because he will be 2nd OL and 3rd or 4th team DT.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Our staff will come through.

Jul 24, 2015, 7:57 AM

Recruiting has been great-they will find who we need. Go Tigers!!!

Re: Our staff will come through.

Jul 24, 2015, 8:11 AM

The plan was always to take 3 to 4 OL. If we get 3 we will just sign more next year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Our staff will come through.

Jul 24, 2015, 8:29 AM

The OL is one of the hardest positions to evaluate so good teams carry 16+ offensive linemen at any given time. LOL 12 is not even a three deep much less recruiting misses or attrition.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So . . .your point is this staff sux and Clemson will never

Jul 24, 2015, 8:57 AM

get good OL recruits?

Not trying to be contrary but what's your point?

In the OP I asked who we would go after now. Maybe reading comprehension is not your strong suit but that was/is my point/question.

Re: Our staff will come through.

Jul 24, 2015, 9:11 AM [ in reply to Re: Our staff will come through. ]

The key to OL is to not have misses and keep numbers low. Olinemen can't play kickoff, kickoff return, punt or punt return. Plus OL can't be move to any other postion. The more OL you have the more you hurt your football team in these areas. I would rather use those extra scholarships on DT and DE. They can help you on ST and if more depth is needed on the OL moved there.

Team probably expects 3 this time - already stepping up 2017

Jul 24, 2015, 9:01 AM

Going after another top rated kid from NYC area named Isaiah! To me it means they are still looking to mine as many territories as possible to get as many as they can next time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Team probably expects 3 this time - already stepping up 2017

Jul 24, 2015, 9:05 AM

I agree that it seems our focus for OL has gone to 2017. Isaiah from NY is a 5* if I'm not mistaken. Also there are a lot of offers out to OL for 2017. I still think we land the kid from Orlando who is teammates with PMoney.

We are in dire need of left tackles. We are going to find

Jul 24, 2015, 9:35 AM

ourselves without a realistic solution if we don't do a better job of recruiting talented offensive tackles. We are loaded with guards. Too many in fact.

We really need another left tackle this recruiting class. Would be surprised if they don't sign one before all is said and done.

Re: We are in dire need of left tackles. We are going to find

Jul 24, 2015, 9:50 AM

We have a true freshman at left tackle we are good for a bit. Sterling Johnson will be a left tackle next year and we already have 1 committed. That's 3. If we can get a stud get 1 but I don't see the rush.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Glad you don't coach us

Jul 24, 2015, 10:02 AM

Johnson will be on defense. If anyone moves from defense to offense will be someone like Rogers. You also have Cannon Smith who down the road probably slides to OT from TE. Need a minimum 14-16 scholarship OL

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Glad you don't coach us

Jul 24, 2015, 10:12 AM

I bet you right now Johnson will move within 2 year. Rodger? Who do you say would move?.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dane Rogers and Cannon Smith

Jul 24, 2015, 10:18 AM

Rogers is the guy buried on the DL depth chart. Smith was recruited as a TE but always projected at OT. He's 6''5 and already pushing 270 after coming in at 240

Re: OL recruiting board

Jul 24, 2015, 9:59 AM

I hate losing recruits to other schools! It's a slap in our face. When people say..."we've got a small class, we'll be fine" I want to believe it. However, in recruiting you are only as good as your current class and there are 25 schools currently more appealing to highly rated recruits than Clemson. What has changed? Is it Jeff Scott passing the recruiting coordinator's job to Brandon Streeter? If so, give it back to Jeff, he's really just the Co OC in name only, Dabo has made it quite clear through his words and actions Tont Elliott is really the OC. So, when will people wake up and be concerned about our recruiting faltering? Next year when we are down around #50? Our window for success is so small we can't rest on our past successes in recruiting.

OL- John Simpson 6-4 270 North Charleston, SC Fort Dorchester HS

Per 24/7, he is the #26 OT, #257 overall, and a 4* prospect. Rivals gives him 4*, #7 OT, and #248 overall. Offered on 10/4/14. Visited for scar game and had this to say, “It was a good show, I must admit,” he said. “But I don’t really know how to explain it. It was a great day. I didn’t expect for it to go how it went. I was expecting it to be real close.” Has offers from CU, scar, UofL, Wake, and UGA. Has said Clemson is a slight leader at this point.

The Latest- Clemson leads, Bama second, and then scar. Showed out at Dabo Swinney Camp. Is planning on visiting steve spurrier camp on Friday June 12th, then LSU, Tenn, UGA, and FL at some point. According to the O&W, he'll be at the All In Cookout. Tony Elliott visited him on Tuesday April 21st. Attended a Tiger baseball game on May 2nd with team mate Dakereon Joyner and coach Tony Elliott.

After CU's Jr Day Part II named a top three of Clemson, LSU, and Miss St. The State's top offensive lineman said that Clemson is his new leader at this time. "They are my new leader but I'm going on more visits so I can really determine who the real leaders are."

Had this to say on 2/6/15, "I've got to take some more visits," he said. "I just want to go to the school that gives me the best opportunity with education and on the field."

An article from Rivals on John , "Simpson emerged this fall as a dominant prospect on the offensive line, showing excellent footwork and good strength while working as a tackle. He will likely play at guard at the next level and with his athleticism, he has the ability to translate his talents into several different types of offensive schemes." Woody Wommack

OT/OG Tremayne Anchrum 6-3 268 Powder Springs, GA McEachern HS

Received an offer from Clemson on June 1st according to his Twitter account. A 3* recruit on Scout.com, Rivals.com, and 24/7.com- who ranks him as the #18 Guard. Is a team mate of Julian Rochester who was a Clemson prospect that committed to UGA. His father played hoops at USC (the real one) and it wouldn't surprise some if he commits to the Trojans. Has expressed interest in deciding on a school during the summer of 2015. Realeased a top 8 of Clemson, UGA, Neb, Mizzou, VT, Wake, BC, and Colo in no order on June 20th, 2015. Wants to study meteorology or something involving nature.

OL Alex Smith 6-4 285 Woodstock, GA Etowah HS

Picked up an offer from CU at junior day. Has offers from Army, App St, Chas Sou, Char, Chatt, and Elon. His school is a run first team so learning pass protection will be crucial at the next level. According to HUDL Smith runs a 5.5 40 time. Had this to say after jr day, “It went great I enjoyed watched the players practice and how they interacted with each other and the coaches!” Named CU his leader after jr day.

Recently attended UofL's junior day. Scout.com rates him as the #51 OT. According to Rivals.com his other current offers are Samford, LA Monroe, Middle Tenn, Southern Miss, Troy, and Western KY. 24/7 composite ranks him as the #136 tackle. OG- Pete Leota 6-5 295 Asheville, NC AHS

Attended 2014 CDS Camp and the Spring game. Also made an unofficial visit to the scar game. A 2* prospect by Rivals. Currently doesn't have a CU offer. BC, ECU, and Wake have offered. I really liked the food, too." For more, http://recruiting.scout.com/story/1486068-leota-updates-recruitment

”I talked to (defensive tackles) coach (Dan) Brooks the most. He’s really good friends with my head coach. He told me he it was good to have me down there and that he hoped I would come back soon.”
