OL Issues

Oct 25, 2021, 4:59 PM

Our OL issues are the root of all issues, especially the interior guards and center. Unfortunately, this issue existed for a long time, but has been covered up by superior QB/RB/WR play. I see DJ with happy feet, absolutely no confidence. Some of the blame I lay upon him, NIL issue (maybe), but I don't know. Coach Caldwell has been around since the 80's (Furman & NC State). Hell, I went to OL camp at Furman when he was there, I'm 53 now. His approach and friendly nature don't cut the mustard in todays game. I've been around this game a long time and without a center who can call blocking assignments, without physical guards, you're dead in the water. We have neither.

Play calling is dictated by what is working and trends. Poor OL play kills offenses every time. Our OL seem confused and often leave people unblocked. Also, they don't block until the whistle blows and that irks me to no end. Lastly, our tackles are allowing speed rushing ends to squeeze the pocket, how about we don't retreat so much or we have a TE chip or RB chip.

We're having a down year. I certainly believe DJ isn't improving. That stunt a few weeks ago with him throwing well after the game was over and the valley was empty came was a joke. Work on it before the game, study your film and do your job. Too much Bojangles & Dr. Pepper? Maybe. At 53, I may take him in a 40.

OL is where it all starts and ends. We stink upfront simple as that.

Line coaching change is needed. My opinion, Steed Lobotzke @ Air Force Academy. Believe he meets with Dabo's value system and has the falcon OL up for the Joe Moore Award. Played at Wake Forest, familiar with the ACC and is well versed in OL play. Or, If we want to go younger, Nic Cardwell at App State, They've been in top 15 OL ranking for Joe Moore Award 2018 and 2019. They are up for award this year in 2021. 3/4 for years, pretty #### good considering the grading.

You have nailed one major issue but you fail to note the drops by our receivers. In the games this season, we have had plenty of them and the Pitt game was no exception.
At least 4 receivers dropped passes that they should have hauled in. That group included J. Ross.
DJ has been an issue in decisions and throws but on Saturday, after our drops in 1st half, I sense his frustration. And the missed block on the shovel pass by our pulling lineman was a killer for that day.

Here's the another potential from the Air Force Academy. The current TE coach that is also an OL coach, Jonathan Himebauch, an up and comer.
