Ok HONEST QUESTION: Do Clemson fans want to open with UGA in ‘24?

8

Feb 20, 2023, 6:23 PM

This is absolutely not a flame. Being 100% honest.

Clemson is a solid team. No doubt and will remain so. But, for whatever reason, Clemson has struggled greatly against Georgia. That is simply a fact.

I always said that you play the easiest schedule possible that STILL allows you to reach all of your goals. History has proven me to be correct on this.

With college football expanding, an argument can be made that it is OK to play tougher teams. But, other teams at the end of the year are going to be vying for a certain number of play off spots.

At the end of the year if you have 9 or 10 wins, but multiple losses and another team has 11 wins and maybe one loss I am just not sure who will get in? Is it worth it to play a great team and lose? In reality how much is that “tougher” schedule going to really matter? I’d take an extra win over North Central State East Campus and have the extra win. Not to mention the attrition factor.

I subscribe to the path of least resistance. That may not be popular, and good people can disagree. But, the hushed up dirty little secret is this - it works.

Do the Clemson fans want to open the 2024 season against Georgia? In Atlanta?

100% yes.... I wish it was the opener every year. 45 minutes apart. I realize the record in huge in favor of UGA. Got it... you won the last two nattys. Congrats.

I look forward to the game, expect UGA to be favored, but know it will be a good game. Hoping for a Tigers win, but if it doesn't happen, will try again the next year at Death Valley.

I understand the path of least resistance is the smart play. Get the W, get the back-ups quality reps, survive and advance. I wish strength of schedule was so important, it would all be big-time match-ups each week for the off-season games, but that is not the reality.

But... as a fan, I wish we started every year vs UGA. Like I said... 45 minutes apart.

45 minutes apart? How fast do you drive? It's 76 miles between Death Valley and Sanford Stadium.

If you make it in 45 minutes, it would require averaging over 100 mph. Your Tiger Paw flags are going to be in tatters.

I agree. As we all know strength of schedule matters in making the playoffs. Back in the day in the 80’s we had some great games and competition.

Oh brother, what a bunch of BS. The only thing you have proven to be "good for" is avoiding actual football talk, in lieu of trash talk. Probably because you just don't know much about football. At any rate, you just come across as a whiny, thin-skinned, crybaby who resorts to trash talk anytime someone doesn't worship your Tigers. You can't make one single rational statement backing your claim of UGA's downfall. It's just wishful thinking. And no, a misdemeanor traffic violation is not going to derail the program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So you're still stuck on repeat with your "narratives"

1

Feb 23, 2023, 6:14 PM

I see, what with all the valuable football content within any of your responses here. I'll do my best to dumb this down so you have a chance of understanding. The OP is a troll, trolling on a Clemson message board. Won't go into how insecure one has to be to do what y'all do, but I digress. My response to his stupidity is pretty clear to anybody but a homer troll such as yourself.

Face it, troll, you're the epitome of everything you just described. Same BS your boyfriend is built for here, but do show me where I depicted the downfall of your trashy program? Also, who said anything about a traffic violation? You must be referring to the latest UGA thug arrested which I think happened after this thread even started, 😂 Anyway, good luck the rest of the off-season. Hopefully no more rapes, fatal crashes, gun charges, disorderly, etc, etc, etc...

I understand hating on rivals, but let's be realistic. I feel as gross as anyone else saying this, but: right now Georgia is the #1 program in the country by a relatively comfortable margin.

A few years ago they were trying to emulate our success and now we're in the position of trying to get back to elite perennial power like they are. The tough part for Clemson is because we're a smaller school and from a national perspective we don't get the hype, it's an uphill battle. The good news is Dabo & Co are still recruiting like crazy and Garrett Riley is undoubtedly a huge upgrade and I think he will do great things for the Tigers...

...however we can't expect to achieve goals if we aren't honest about where we stand and where our opponents/rivals are. Right now Georgia is king and there's no sign of letting up. We can take them down, yes, but right now we're definitely looking up at them.

I think UGA would prefer that as well given the weakness of their schedule in 23.

UGA has some holes to fill and Bobo doesn’t scare me. Kirby could upgrade his OC after this season.

Not sure why you'd bring up Fields and an ill-advised play he was involved in. Your coach stuck with a QB - all season - anyone who watched knew couldn't play and literally cost your team a playoff spot. If you're going to introduce bad coaching decisions involving QBs, you're going to have to start with Dabo.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

White then ran for about 6 yards to about the 13. Then Kirb decided to let the clock run out. A TD was not a given. I guess he could have kicked a FG for 13-3, but, you know, w/e.

No, it's just a fact. That 18 team was better than any UGA team in history. We're also 4-1 against Ohio state and 3-2 vs ND in recent games so hard to fault us for a loss here and there against top teams. I'll be glad to pull out the record book for you before your history started a few years ago.

My point is it's laughable to think Clemson can't be back to championship material after being one quarter away from the playoffs with a generationally bad QB. Congrats on your win but you're still in the same category as us. 2 CFP championships. Although your first one was kind of a mulligan after beating the same team that beat you the previous game. Doesn't seem too legit to me.

Clemson fans will always want this. The last 2 years I'm not so sure the team would have wanted it. The offense was soft and that started with the QB. Don't forget UGA struggled with Clemson even with an inept offense. All that said the energy around this team will be something special over the next 2 years imo. I don't think UGA wants Clemson especially if the can survive the "gauntlet" they play in 2023 and can have the same "gauntlet" in 2024.

No thank you! I’ll never understand why anyone would want to play an SEC schedule and brag about it. The path of least resistance that allows you to make the playoffs is what I prefer. Your schedule will be hard enough when the playoffs start. Why risk losses and injury playing tougher schedules? Makes zero sense to me and I laugh at USC fans that brag about their tough schedule. 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

SEC East is not what most would consider tough. You guys had a surprise in Tenn being ranked but we see how that worked out.

On the other side it has been considered by most the toughest division in college football, but A&M needs to step up. Still to be determined on what Oklahoma and Texas will bring to the table besides more money. Texas likes to rock the boat when it comes to conferences seeing they will believe they are doing the SEC a favor by joining. Having been out that way they are a very cocky fan base.

Your conference championship is no doubt a tough out but the ACC’s championship should be much improved in matching up the top 2 teams.

Weird how often in the SEC Championship Title game that the two opposing teams are often ranked in the TOP 5 nationally. When was the last time the ACC runner up made the CFP? SEC>ACC.....fact.

Yo dog, to be the best, you gotta beat the best. And that's what we will do. During our 6 year playoff run, you couldn't touch us.
Your run won't last forever. Go Tigers !

Do you think Clemson will be back at that level in 2024?

I can see both sides. Understand. But, with FSU an USC

making big strides and each year a surprise team seems to appear I am just not sure adding Georgia is the right call. But, I understand why some would want to see a big atmosphere game. Just have to look at reality at the end of the season is all I am saying.

College football will be here before we know it and 2023 should be another tremendous season of pageantry and excitement!!

I don't usually think about UGA unless there is some football related scandal in the news which seems to happen quite frequently.

But yes I prefer to play good teams instead of what amounts to a scrimmage against SCSU or Charlotte or other down trodden team.

Did UGA accomplish anything in 40 years until the NCAA became castrated and you started passing out Ford Raptors like they were candy and you had the serendipitous fortune of Alabama’s 2 stud NFL receivers miss the title game with injuries??

I don’t like big games for the season opener.

Feb 22, 2023, 8:51 PM

Of course. It's a game I wish we still played every year. And TBH, if we do lose that game, 2024 is the first year of the 12 team playoff... so if they win the ACC they will likely still be in. Nothing to lose by playing a good OOC team then.

They have to in order to recruit. South Carolina high school sports is absolutely trash. Georgia 1-A schools can beat most of their 5-A schools. You can tell most on here don't know about football.

Go back to Georgia. Never heard from you until you won a Natty first one since 1980 with a bought and paid for H Walker that year. No one is interested in Georgia’s outlaws and bought and paid for players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Heck yeah! To be the best you got to beat the best!

I miss this series.

Uga has gotten the best of it, but some epic games. Plus the two schools are so close together and both love football

Absolutely, let’s play!

The class vs trash bowl, plus the tigers have the better QB. Who knows who will be eligible and who will have warrants out for the dogs.

Man, what does one have to do to even have the ncaa infractions folks even notice your program anymore, but somehow UGA manages to do that lol!

I'm 100% in favor of opening with Georgia in 2024 and it'd be an annual thing (though I'd prefer the game happen a few weeks into the year--I know that's not realistic) if I had any say.

Clemson is in the difficult position in the sense that our conference has, for the most part, failed us aside from one season. In the 2016/2017 year when Clemson won the natty, the ACC was a legit conference. FSU won a BCS bowl and while Louisville faded in the second half of the year, when Clemson played them they were elite and there's no denying the dynamic playmaking ability of Lamar Jackson. That year the ACC had 12 bowl teams which went 9-3 (the SEC & B1G were the only other conferences with 10+ teams and they went 6-7, 3-7, respectively)...overall it was a uniquely strong year for the ACC and I think Clemson's dominance over Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl showed just how seasoned that Clemson team was.

Flash forward a few years and aside from Clemson, the ACC had fallen into shambles. Clemson's dominance of the ACC was clear and our overall talent top to bottom was far superior to the 2016/2017 national championship team. Despite that, when we went into the Fiesta Bowl we got punched in the mouth by a force far superior to anything close to what we had played to that season. I live in Colorado and so the only Clemson games I've made it to the past few years are those two Fiesta Bowls and I can tell that you in person the body language & confidence of the team looked completely different between those two years despite the latter being far more talented on paper. Clemson came back and won that game because it was the better team...but it took them 25 minutes to be able to match the speed & quality of a very talented Ohio State team.

Beyond the "iron sharpens iron" argument, as a fan I'd much rather watch Clemson play a hated rival like Georgia, win or lose, rather than play an exhibition against Kent State or Akron.
