Considering we still controlled our own destiny to get to the ACC title I fully still thought we'd win it. No way the committee leaves out 1 loss ACC champion was my reasoning.

Plus the officiating in that game was very obvious that the refs were on Pitts team. Plus the wins over Auburn in Jordan Hare, over FSU in Doak Campbell, over Louie in Papa John's Stadium. Those were 3 big wins away from home against #8 FSU, #21 Louisville, #24 Aubum, plus #16 VT in the ACCCG. Our wins were to strong not to be in the playoffs. After entering the Playoffs, we beat #3 OSU, and we beat #1 Bama in the NCG. There isn't any doubt in my mind what so ever, NONE, that with all the rank teams that we have beat in 2016, Clemson is undeniably the true #1 National Championship team in the entire country. ANYBODY that tries to say any different, they are really hating life when they can't or won't except the facts!!! Even the coots have to except it, and how great was to see it plastered all over their very own state news paper. How sweet is was, and it still is!!!!

I seem to recall the bitterness of that loss as a home game. And yes I thought we were still in the hunt if we could still win the conference.

I thought playoffs were gone, and as a result paid through the nose for NCG tix. Possibly a bad fan moment. I still had confidence in us, but no confidence that there was still a path there. Victim of the old "ACC team must be undefeated" thinking.
Boy, was I wrong. Thankfully.

Which begs the question - Who in front of us on our schedule could beat us? Bama was the Last Man in our way to win the NC. No other team was going to beat us.
So - YES - I thought we would still be in the NCG, but just couldn't predict a win vs. Bama

I think it was rigged and DW got paid to throw that INT.
Up by 8 with 4 mins to go inside the Pitts 5 yard line.
If the game was for real no way would any team ever throw the ball.
So it had to be a rigged game.

After the loss, I thought:
if my team HAD to lose, I'd like it to be by one point (especially in a high scoring game)
ALSO If my team had to lose to someone, I'd like it to be pitt. They're not a cupcake team but still wouldnt jump us in rank. (Plus not a rival)
Lastly, if I had to choose when to lose, I'd like it close to midway through the season. Not too early to destroy our confidence but not so late that it affects our playoff chance.
It was a blessing, go Tigers.

missed everything due to the day and checked the score - F@#%
couldn't believe we lost
but then most of the other schools that were also in the running lost the SAME day - wasn't really worried just knew we couldn't lose another game .....

We could of easily won that game and 3 of the top 4 teams lost that week so I knew we still had a shot if we would of just won the rest of the games on the schedule convincingly, which we did. That loss really motivated our team the rest of the season and imo, I think that needed to happen in order for us to stay focused on the goals ahead
