Ok. I'm officially worried about Venables

Nov 23, 2021, 12:51 AM

With all these major programs (Florida, LSU, VT, TCU and more) firing their coachs, and Jake leaving the program....how tempted will Brent be to take a HC job?

Re: Ok. I'm officially worried about Venables

Nov 23, 2021, 1:02 AM

Tempted ,maybe, but too grounded IMO as a Defensive coordinator to consider most of them. I think K. State would be his preferred choice if it becomes available.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with you about K-State

Nov 23, 2021, 1:53 AM

I always figured that was his dream job. But hopefully he likes it here at Clemson too much.

Re: I agree with you about K-State

Nov 23, 2021, 8:09 AM

Brett already had the opportunity for K-State.

I don’t think he wants to be a head coach based on his pass comments.

So coaches are just happy doing what they do and do not aspire to be a head coach.

People should be worried. Be worried TE is leaving too. If you look at recruiting, his defensive classes has many more 5 stars than the offense. And you can see it on the field. Defense is Alabama level elite in recruiting and the offense is not.

When Venables leaves, remember all the so called "expert fans" who cry, whine and have meltdowns constantly about "coaches kids on the roster." Those coaches kids are whats kept these amazing coaches here.

It really shows the IQ of some of these "expert fans" who think coaches kids were somehow causing the 2021 team to have a bad offense.

Re: Ok. I'm officially worried about Venables

Nov 23, 2021, 8:05 AM

I disagree. I think the coaches stay because it's a great program, with a great head coach, a great atmosphere and culture, a beautiful part of the country, with very few problems, a great place to recruit, much less pressure than some of the "blue-blood" programs. And......the Clemson coaches are paid very well to do their jobs, which they obviously love. I don't think CBV and CTE are going anywhere.

individuals who recognize, develop and nuture their talents, rather than following blind ambitions.

I suspected he may be one of those with his lengthy tenure at Oklahoma, and my beliefs have been reenforced with his longevity at Clemson.

Thus, I'm not convinced the whereabouts of his children have been, are or will be in play other than his desire for his family to be in a safe, secure and rooted environment, which they are in Clemson. He certainly knows the admiration, respect and love the Clemson family has shown him and his family, and I have no doubts he and Dabo are, perhaps, joined at the hips in a certain way.

Other highly successful and respected people have made their marks in our world in their respective fields with the same outlooks I mentioned in the first paragraph. As for collegiate football, Mickey Andrews at FSU comes to mind. Even right here on good, ole TigerNet, that jokester-in-residence, Francis Marion, is a perfect example of a person confident with his talents while knowing he doesn't need to be the Chairperson of the Bored to be highly regarded in his work!

Bud Foster also comes to mind. ******

Just hope Hartins is right. Tried to post an article off ESPN regarding the Florida and Mullen situations. Took a deep dive with an in depth conversation with the AD etc. Point being it could be any high profile program.... It doesn't take long to go from good to bad. And it doesn't take much. Could be as simple as one coach leaving. Scary stuff. We should be so blessed at Clemson to have the coaches we have.

One thing we can always count on in college football is change is inevitable. At some point in time Venables will leave, but in my opinion it will not be any time soon.

In 2018 the K State job opened up and from what I remember they contacted Venables about the job and he was not interested. His "dream" job opened up and he was not interested.

Coach V could announce that he is leaving tomorrow, but from everything I have read and heard he is happy coaching defense. He does not seem to like the additional stuff that head coaches have to do with the media, the boosters, etc. He gets paid $2 million a year to coach the defense and is one of the best in the business.

The guy gets paid close to $1000 an hour (based on a 40 hour work week) to do what he loves to do. I get it, he works more like 100 hours a week, but most of you will get the point.

Great post.

I get it all too well. Was offered multiple times in 35 yr career to move "up" so to speak. But I was more than happy being hands on and behind the scenes. I wish that on everyone.

Just give him complete autonomy to do his thing. Wouldn't bother me to see Jake come back in several years as a coach in some capacity.

Venables to OU if Riley goes LSU would be only worry. He would not go if he can’t be sure he can recruit the top of the top talent.

CTE to USC would be my only worry and they are probably not smart enough to seriously pursue him.

I don’t think you would see either take on a Kansas St or Virginia Tech type of job only a Florida OU LSU USC type of gig and those AD’s will want a bigger splash name typically.

but most fans today seem to only want high scoring offensive shootouts.

BV's name was really hot for a HC job several years ago but isn't mentioned as much these days. Personally, I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

Anyone who has watched Brent can see he loves coaching his position. He could’ve landed a nice gig before his sons came to Clemson but didn’t. Out of all the coaches besides Dabo I fully believe BV is 110% all in with Clemson and don’t see him going anywhere. There’s a reason we pay him his salary he’s totally worth it and we need him.

Maybe he leaves for a HC job, but he’s never shown any driving interest thus far.

He has spoken many times about this and never changed the way he has gone about it-he came from a troubled home and craved a family environment and does not want to be in charge of it. He is content doing his part of the system and concentrating, even micromanaging that piece.
