Offense playing in a 10 yard box

Sep 20, 2021, 8:45 AM

I feel like we're playing like we have Kelly Bryant at QB again, if not worse. Every play is playing in a 10 yard box, Idk what Elliott was looking at saying GT was playing this Cloud 2 defense preventing the big play....complete garbage, they had the entire defense playing within 10 yards of the LOS 90% of the time. If he doesn't start opening up the playbook and turn DJ loose (we saw it last year) and let our playmakers go up and make plays then we're in for a long season. We got big 6'4" WRs for a reason. There is no sense in us not being able to dictate the game, we should be the ones making the defense adjust, not the other way around. The offensive line isn't great, but it isn't so bad we can't work around that (gave up 0 sacks against GT). The read option with DJ using his leg and the deep ball have to become a factor again or it'll just be to easy for the defenses we play. The only thing Tony Elliott is doing with his play calling is making defenses look better than they really are.

10 yard box

I think that is a good description. Playing in a 10 yard box. You could probably make the argument we are playing in a 5 yard box 80% of the time and 10 yard box 20% of the time.

Amen They have got to stretch the field vertically or at least threaten to do so. Defenses are keeping everything in front of them and tightening down more and more as game goes on. Double move and go deep anyone?

I used to love to watch Bobby Bowden and Spurrier go at it. Both would sling it downfield on their first play to let you know that threat is there.

We had better face the fact that Trevor is gone and DJ is really a pretty unremarkable QB. He is big (and slow)! He is unsure of himself and has a strong arm, but NO "touch"! This is not Elliott's fault. When the 2022 QB reports in January DJ becomes a backup after the spring game. I don't believe that DJ is going to be coachable into a starter for two more years. He either doesn't understand the playbook or can't remember the "reads". Let's just accept that we made a recruiting error and look towards next season (or our bench).

Too calm, he played with fire for first time in 4th quarter

of GT game, if Elliot would open up the play book, he could be getting back to his games like he had last year.

yes, i agree DJ has not looked good at all, throws off back foot, inaccurate as hell, we have no saftey valve receiver such as a hunter renfrow or a amari rogers or even an ettienne catching it out of the backfield even if we had it dj cant even make a simple pitch and catch, he throws the ball way to hard and has no touch even when the receiver is wide open, this offense looks bad, real bad clemson should not even be in the top 25 right now hell coastal carolina has alot better offense than we do, the only thing we have is a defense and thats it, Will shipley is the only bright spot on the entire offense at this time.Bottom line is that we do not have the talent we have had in the past plain and simple, i think we have gotten to the point where we think that just because its clemson you assume your going to win with all the past success, but you cannot go with the past you have to make your own future and these 4 and 5 star recruits we have gotten are not as good as they thought, hell we were better when we did not have such a high recruiting class.Just because the media assumes that we are all world and the players are all world does not mean that it will translate to the field and that falls all on coaching, fact of the matter is we have been spoiled and all these so called high end recruits have been also. wake up coaches especially DABO and admit you have a serious offensive issue that needs to be addressed, fact is Dj is not getting it done nor is our receiving group, make some changes now not later.
