Of the 3-5 ELITE COACHES today is recruiting the #1 thing?

Jan 31, 2022, 5:30 PM

Has the game basically evolved into recruiting now? With the transfer situation like it now is, too?

It is just something akin to the wild wild west now and I don’t know if college football will ever be the same.

Kirby Smart won a NC.

Jan 31, 2022, 5:34 PM

What do you think?

My thoughts exactly. Recruiting is the best thing he has going.

I don’t either Bulldog and it saddens the heck out of me. Money ruins everything it seems. I get both sides but dang need some type of structure to keep the playing field leveled out. Getting like the Premier Soccer League in England. Richest teams wins no salary caps.

Agreed, not sure it will ever be the same. Who know it may go to even further extremes to the point the college Presidents or NCAA are forced to put structure back in.

I would say that if a coach lands in the right place… then the boosters will recruit for him… he doesn’t have to do much other than avoid pissing his pants in public. It depends on the university.

It's turned into a farm league for the NFL with annual free agency for anyone and everyone. However, there is no salary cap on recruiting and NIL deals that will sway players to the highest bidder. The NCAA has bent over and taken it from interest groups and each state now has the freedom to push through their interpretation of the pay to play as they see fit. I believe it will get worse before it gets better, especially when the non-profits and interest groups start to demand better results for their dollars.

I do agree with this as well. Not sure how many recruiting cycles will pass before someone wakes up and realizes the same 5 teams are the only ones capable of winning the whole thing.

They may have to see some blue bloods completely drop out of the playoff contention and talk before they realize they have created a financial arms race. Maybe a couple class action lawsuits would do the trick.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If true Georgia would have more than one NC

No.

The #1 thing that will always make the best coaches the best coaches is hiring the right assistant coaches....

Dabo is great at putting the right people in the right positions to succeed....
Saban is also...
Urban meyer as well...

It's like thst for all the greats

Well, I lift free weights

Jan 31, 2022, 7:23 PM [ in reply to Re: I think it’s always been about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s but ]

and, I am curling a 40 pound dumbbell 20 reps with each arm so I think that says a lot.

Do you lift free weights? I have been lifting for a lot of years now and it is not easy.

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Recruiting has always been a #1 thing.

Jan 31, 2022, 7:44 PM

Team building. The roster. Good coaches can win with lesser talent but they can win big with better talent. You gotta get them first before you can coach them up.

What Dabo does so well is recruit leadership for the positions he needs to fill. The selectiveness in offers is based heavily in that area - impact players that can make a difference on the field and around their teammates. He also has pretty good track record with QB's. Boyd. Watson. Lawrence.

With all the NIL and transfer portal / free agency about, we're on our way here to landing a 2022 class smack dab in the middle of our championship year seasons, with a new #1 rated QB in the mix. While there might be a wild wild west element with many programs right now as all this unfolds, Clemson seems to be forging on ahead without much fuss.

Pioneers get the arrows. Settlers get the land.

In order - 1) hire great assistant coaches 2) recruiting…

Jan 31, 2022, 10:42 PM

and getting #1 correct makes recruiting much easier. 3) NIL / Transfer Portal (manage BOTH)

Having $$ makes all of the above easier. TV money, alumni money, conference success = more $$. All about the Benjamin's ????????

USuC has had over 100 years.

Jan 31, 2022, 11:10 PM

They had one elite coach.

Shane Beamer ain't one of them.

You do realize the SEC isn't a team, right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Your obsession with a university that you’ve

Jan 31, 2022, 11:27 PM

dominated in football seems…unnecessary. But, to answer your text - 1) I’m not sure they’ve had ANY coaches. Who are you thinking of? 2) of course, Beamer’s not elite 3) yes, I know that. And, as I mentioned in my previous post, conference success equals many, MANY other successes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Your obsession with a "team" that doesn't

Feb 1, 2022, 9:51 PM

exist is what's truly at point here.

You act like a gamecock. Are you? You can't live your life rooting for "Team SEC", Ma'am.

Of course, conference success means more money for conference teams, but what other successes? Not even the money has helped UofSC, so what else do you have? A conference's success doesn't reflect out on to each individual team's success. That's cocklogic.

Claiming a conference as your rooting endeavor is hilarious. You can stop the charade now.

Just admit it. You're a gamecock fan who wears an SEC sweatshirt because you have nothing else.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm curious.. Kirby has recruited very well.

Jan 31, 2022, 11:07 PM

But has he really been elite?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are only 2 elite coaches...

Feb 1, 2022, 5:15 AM

Even a blind bulldog finds a bone every now and then.

In case you haven't figured it out, you have to win MULTIPLE Nattys to be considered "Elite"...

Re: Of the 3-5 ELITE COACHES today is recruiting the #1 thing?

Feb 1, 2022, 7:40 AM

Coaching first. Great coaches know what it takes to win. Players second. I am sure a lot of kids don’t end up where they would like to go. Their parents influence the decision in some cases $$$. Team chemistry rates in there too. All the good/great players don’t all play for the same teams. It all takes teamwork and trust that the next guy is going to do his job. In the old days the media teams won. That is still the case today to a certain extent. Sports politics I guess.

You guys please correct me if I am wrong. Texas A&M has the 2022 number 1 class with 27 commitments. I thought the maximum was 25. There is NOTHING to prevent them from loading up with Five star preferred walk on players with nice NIL deals. Forget scholarship limits.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

its alway been the #1 thing

Feb 1, 2022, 8:41 AM

Clemson had the #1 recruiter at Clemson as a wide receiver coach... Tommy Bowden got fired adn this recruiter had every team including Bama and UGA vying to hire him into their staffs...until Clemson's AD offered him the head coaching job.. Why would they hire the WR coach who has never been the head coach of anything? Recruiting. Recruiting built Clemson into what they are today. If you can't get the players that matter in, you ain't gonna be winning much.
