LANCASTER, SC - Mr. Philip William Rape, age 57, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was born September 18, 1959 in Lancaster, a son of Hal Q. Rape and Carol Vick Rape. Philip was employed with Meyer Tools in Greenville, SC. He considered his co-workers a part of his family. Once you knew him, you had a friend for life. Philip was an avid Clemson fan, loved his Clemson family and friends, and was also a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was of the Methodist faith.

Philip is survived by his parents, Hal and Carol Rape of Lancaster; two brothers, Hal Rape, Jr. and his wife Darlene of Mineral Springs, NC and Greg Rape of Portland, OR; two sisters, Angela L. (Rape) Hargett of Kershaw and Tracy Rape Michaw and her husband Chris of Lancaster; four nephews, three nieces and five great nephews.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Rape will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 11, 2017 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Margaret McLean and Rev. Arthur Vick. Entombment will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.


The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday evening, February 10, 2017 at Burgess Funeral Home and suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

I met him once at a Duke game a few years ago. Good fellow. Sorry to hear that he has passed away so young.

Phillip was a good friend of mine when he lived in Lancaster. I had not seen him in a long time. Years ago he was a big Gamecock fan, but when he became 'A Tiger', he became a full Orange blooded Tiger.
