If your masks protects you then why do people worry about me not wearing one? I wear one out of respect for the people I work with, but really if someone's mask works why should I be forced to wear one if I don't want to and want to roll the dice? It's like telling someone not to smoke, when they have a right to harm themselves if they want to. This really doesn't make any logical sense, if it works for the person wearing it why worry about the ones who don't? If it is truly as virulent as they claim then those that don't will be weeded out in short order. Or maybe, just maybe it isn't worse than the regular flu and it is a way to control the people. I'm to old to give a rat's #### either way, and I'm not gonna check out til the good LORD is ready for me whether I'm wearing a mask or motorboating Dolly Parton sized bazoomba's!

Truth,
Have you really lived through 9 months of this pandemic and STILL don't know that the mask protects others much more than it does you ? What news sources do you use ??

I'm either thrilled that Cooper finally put a stop to the spread by forcing everyone to stay home after 10pm or I am furious that if this was the key to solving this issue that it took him this long to figure it out. Gotta say I'm curious how the 1% of people who are out after 10pm are causing all of these issues but if our science loving Governor says that's the problem then it must be true.

As a CLT residence I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to see my tigers play. At the same time as a CLT resident I’m quite happy that all of these virus hoaxer non mask wearing fools that infest this site won’t be coming to my city.

Just the facts! North Carolina and our Governor has don a commendable job of handling the pandemic. Let’s just compare North Carolina and South Carolina. Had South Carolina achieved the success rate as NC you would have had 42,000 fewer cases and almost 2,000 fewer deaths. Go ahead and live in a fantasy world and try to make everything all about politics.

I’m not making it about politics. You want to make it about politics, though. You want to talk facts? How have those mask mandates and shutdowns worked for New York, California, and your NC?? Y’all have been basically shut down, or working at 50% or less since March, and your numbers are still going up. This virus has a 90% survival rate. I have a 90 year old neighbor who had it, and said she’s had colds that are worse. Yes, there are people who have suffered and died from this virus, but I also know people who’ve died from the flu, meningitis, and car accidents. It’s life! We’ve stopped living because we’re afraid of dying! We can all agree on common sense distancing and hand washing. But those of us who question why we’ve been told we can’t go to football games, school, a movie, or church, are called names and shamed. And I have dear friends who are losing their livelihoods over this ########.

Her, look at the cases per 100,000
https://public.tableau.com/profile/dartmouth.data.analytics.core#!/vizhome/covid19-atlas-hrr-cases/Casesper100K
You can actually see regional differences based on spread per capita. North East and West are better off... and you can actually see Virginia/NC as being different than SC/GA/TN. Say what you want about governors/states imposing limits, that is actually a constitutional right granted to each state as a part of the police power - as a part of health, safety, morals, and general welfare.
The issue with covid isn't the base mortality rate, but rather the rate of infection can become so severe that it will overwhelm medical capacity. Thus those with treatable infection will die because there isn't enough medical capacity (ie staff, equipment, space) to handle a mass outbreak.
I live in a region of 500,000 and 140 ICUs at the start of the pandemic. Even if ALL of those ICUs were for covid patients and only 10% of covid need hospitalization and only 3% need ICUs, an active, you only need about 5,000 cases to max out a health system. Worse, I am a moderately urban area so I have better health access than others, especially rural populations.
As for livelihoods, whatever happened to personal responsibility and making sure you have at least 8 months of savings on hand as a minimum? We already had one government handout already. I would lover to tell folks to have common sense but if folks can't have common sense that mass crowds and gatherings is what this virus lives for (literally) because it will continue to impact the economy then that is why IDK. Your friends are not losing their livelihoods because folks are now being told to stay home, it was because back in May, June and since, enough folks have acted selfishly and with callous indifference to others. We could have had this nipped in the bud months ago but folks are now reaping what they sew.

As for “personal responsibility”, a friend of mine who owns a bar/restaurant, a very successful one, went through his savings of $100,000 in the first five months in order to pay the bills and make payroll. He wanted to keep his employees as long as possible. Clearly, you don’t run a business and know what it’s like to try and keep afloat during a statewide shutdown. And what do people acting “selfishly and with callous indifference” in May and June have to do with numbers now? Covid numbers were going to increase when they opened things back up, regardless. Your self-righteousness is astounding. My point about the ACC game is there should be more fans allowed into a stadium that size. The BiG 12 and SEC will have twice that many. Social distancing can be done in stadiums that size. Yes, it does boil down to personal responsibility. If you’re scared to go out and live, keep your uppity butt at home.

the spot on analysis from person above is all you need to know. it’s about the total maximizing of hospitalizations and nothing else. which for those of us in healthcare understand inherently. if you don’t get it, call your doc and get a pill for the dumba$$. they may make those now.

Once again....let me speak slower for you, we can all agree on keeping our distance and using common sense. I think it’s stoopid for people to have large gatherings indoors and not take precautions. But for the government to step in and mandate more lockdowns and capacity, when they’ve been doing it since March, and we’re still in this predicament. The ACC and NC should allow more than 7% capacity, but you Roy Coopers and Swoffords want to get on your high horses and take offense. My wife has been a nurse, so don’t lecture me on that either.

ok, mayor of simpleton. again, you cannot have hospitals at full capacity. that’s the reasoning. any other reasons stated politically are false. it really is that simple. don’t hurt yourself thinking about it.
here endeth the lesson

Personally these folks are grasping at straws. As long as folks are interacting in grocery stores especially it’s not going away anytime soon. Folks need to work and kids need to be going to school. If mask were the answer we would have seen a decline already. I personally have no problem with it but honestly do not think it’s helping as much as they want people to believe. Again if it was it would already been in decline. Shutting down at 10 makes little to know sense. If you can prove other wise I’m all ears. I guess I’m of the belief of personal responsibility because relying on the government for anything is asinine. They screw more things up then they ever fix. At the end of the day Roy has to make the call but my gut is saying the info he receives strongly suggest it being a good idea. It will get worse with flu season coming on and personally from the folks that I know that’s tested positive for COVID I’m by far more worried about the flu. Not here to argue with anyone but sharing my opinion like the other so called experts.

i don’t agree with everything Cooper does, but I’d much rather have him than foghorn leghorn McMaster, “ I say I say dat virus gone go away”.
To cite the uptick in infection rates as proof that masks don’t help is a fallacy. I have neither the time nor the inclination to do it, but you could treat the states that don’t have mask mandates as a control and try to compare the rates between the groups. Even then you couldn’t control for every difference so it’s a pointless endeavor. The bottom line is that everyone who knows about these things (and knows a lot more than you and I) is recommending that we wear masks; just F’in do it.
Also people get all twisted about the word Curfew, but it’s really quite irrelevant. You are supposed to stay home unless you are going to and from work, or are out to get essential items like food, medicine, or fuel. So come 10:30 Friday night if I get a hankering for a Gordita Ima run my fat #### to the border and get me some tasty morsels. I think he’s just trying to deter people from going out to bars, restaurants, or parties. The thought is if I gotta be home by 10 why bother going out in the first place.
