What happened to the pop pass?

Sep 10, 2018, 10:22 AM

Pre-snap movement and window dressing was a staple of Clemson's offense under Morris. With us struggling to spread the field horizontally due to failed WR screen after failed WR screen, why not go back to the pop pass? Rodgers and Kendrick are tailor-made to attack the edge of the defense.

Suddenly the middle will open up if you show a willingness to actually hand the ball off on those end-arounds. I don't know if this is another instance of Kelly B choosing to keep the ball, or we really aren't calling those types of plays, but we aren't currently calling a large enough variety of run plays to confuse the defense. Especially when our run game is getting stuffed up the middle, why have we seemingly also stopped attacking the outside? Getting our playmakers in space should be the first priority of this offense.

Ask the OL coach! You run plays that you think you can block effectively.... imo

Yikes if our OL is this uncomfortable this early.***

Now this is a great question!

Where has our pre-snap movement gone? Was that specific to Chad and Tony/Jeff have got away from it?

Our WR blocking looks greatly improved this year, but KBs release is too slow for the screen game. I agree that we need to start mixing in some more of the Jet Sweep type plays.

Regardless of the reasons why we currently aren't, we just need to find some ways to challenge the defense horizontally. Shoot go back and watch Sammy Watkins highlights against Ohio State to remember how we used to attack defenses.

I'm hoping the rain played a factor against A&M for ball security, but less Kelly B runs up the middle. More carries for our RB's and WR's in space outside.
