Notre Dame loss vs UGA

Sep 6, 2021, 6:01 PM

So I am hearing we are out of the playoff because we lost to UGA by 7 in the first game of the year? Last year we lost to #4 Notre Dame in OT in November and got in the playoff. I predict there will only be one undefeated team by the end of the year so let’s not lose our minds just yet.

I think Bama and OSU run the table. If the Dawgs win out and lose a close one to Saban in Atlanta, I think they're in. I also think Cincinnati has a chance to win out. Unlike previous undefeated group of 5 teams, Cincinnati started the season #8. They have road games against two top 25 teams - Indiana and ND. Win those and I think they may get in over a 1-1oss ACC Champ Clemson.

I think Bama and UGA will be in unless the Dawgs stumble against Florida which I don’t see happening. You make a good point about Cincinnati starting at #8. I just think it’s way early to tell. History shows few teams make it through undefeated. Of course if we don’t get it together on offense we will lose another one and it won’t matter.

I wanna see a team that deserves to be in the playoffs

First off that was last year.
Second of all you have no clue as to how many teams will be undefeated at the end of the year.
And just for argument sake lets say Notre Dame is one of them.
And lets say OSU, and OU win out and win their conference championship games.
There are then 3 teams that are undefeated.
And then say both Georgia and Alabama are undefeated and Georgia hands Alabama the same 10-3 score in the SECCG.
Then there are still 4 undefeated teams, but guarantee it Alabama would only fall to #5 in the final poll. Of course the same would apply if Alabama beat Georgia in a close game.
Then there would still be 5 teams ranked ahead of Clemson.
So for Clemson to get in,2 of the 5 teams mentioned in this scenario have to sustain at least one loss, and Clemson also has to win out, or it's curtains.
Now more than likely this will not be the case, but don't bet the farm on it.

Dude, when was the last time there were 3 undefeated teams?

How about never?

You're not wrong but given the gap between Bama and OSU and everyone else in their conferences, its more likely than not that they win out.

There were a couple times during the BCS era, when #3 team

was undefeated. I think Auburn was one.

Dude, wasn't is just a couple of years ago that Clemson, Bama, and ND got in the CFP as undefeated teams? Seems like I remember Clemson and Bama battling for the first to go 15-0 in the modern era, and ND was 12-0 coming in as they had no conference championship.

Not saying it will happen this year, but 3 undefeated teams is definitely possible.

just espin trying to set a narrative

you would think we were number one and lost to an unranked team in a rout the way they are acting..our offense was awful but some of it was due to playing a d line that is probably one of the top three in the nation

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the commitee seems to always take that

Anyone thinking Ohio State winning out is a guarantee probably didn’t watch their game. Know it’s game 1, but they got some problems as well.

Last year's schedule was GREAT though!

Sep 8, 2021, 12:25 PM

Man, the highest-watched game in ACC history feels like a distant memory.

We don't have that opportunity this year. It stinks.

It's a fixable problem, but it's on US to fix it; Clemson can only do so much (i.e., replacing Wyoming with Georgia), & the ACC won't listen if we're not saying it.

Clemson has to run the table and then see what happens.

OSU did not look unbeatable. They would get in over us with one win though.

ND and Cincy have to run the table to get in over us and only one of them could do that.

Oklahoma can't tackle, at this level you either know how to tackle or you don't. Every play their opponent runs is a TD waiting to happen. They are back to having to outscore teams to win. It is hard to go 12-0 playing like that. I don't see a one loss Oklahoma team getting in over a one loss Clemson team. Clemson's loss would be to a better team and the Oklahoma has not proven they can win a playoff game and only have been competitive in the shootout against Georgia. Iowa State looked bad last week and has to beat Iowa this week for anyone to think they have a shot to go at least 11-1 and win the Big 12. If they don't beat Iowa and win the Big12, they still don't get in over us unless Iowa at least wins the Big 10 North and plays well in the Championship Game

What happens in the PAC 12 probably has the most influence over whether we are in the Playoff or not. A 1 loss Pac Twelve Champ could get in over us in it is the right one loss team and loss is to the right team. Oregon and UCLA play in the regular season so one of them will have at least one loss.
