Not to get y'all ticked off.

But, I'm listening to the FSU OC Monday afternoon presser. He was asked about the 4th and 14 completion we made at the end of the game that set up the winning TD.
"The kid (QB) made a great play. It was actually his 4th read. He went through his progressions. He had great protection. He didn't panic. He made his reads, stepped up into the pocket and his 4th read was the guy he threw it to."
I'm no QB guru, but I think most of us think that DJ's biggest problem is locking onto one receiver and not going through his progressions.

There are several issues but that one tops the list. 2nd is the over-throws. It appears he is rushing his motion. But I’m no expert.

It’s frustrating how inconsistent he is. Consistency. Him and the Oline have created the perfect storm this season, play calling doesn’t help him either.

Totally agree and thanks for posting. What I read between the lines with Elliott pressures, that's kinda what he was hoping to work on with DJ against UConn.

in fairness to him, the offensive line has contributed to this to a large degree.

Yes, and you've laid this out quite nicely in previous posts. The UGA game right out the gate and all.
You guys know your football so I have a question. Bryn and Mayes were stud recruits, both played all 3 or 4 of their HS years as tackles. Imho, both should be ready, but neither can crack the rotation. Are we trying to get them to play inside? I understand that's not easy to make that move sometimes. I just feel like both with their high accolades, they'd be on the field more. Am I wrong?

Bryn and Mayes are somewhat similar in that while they were highly ranked early in the evaluation process, they struggled with weight and athleticism.
At the end of the day, they performed pretty well at the high school level due, at least in part, to their size against high school competition. That simply hasn't translated to the collegiate level yet against bigger, faster, and stronger defenders.
The though was to move them inside to guard and work on their body composition to perhaps give them a better chance to reach their full potential at the college level. They will have to develop the athleticism to block downfield. If this works out...watch out. It would be nice to have both of those two bid ole boys on the same OL.

They'll have to outplay Pennington in the fall next year. Dabo couldn't quit talking about him during fall practice before the injury.

I'm no QB guru, but I think most of us think that DJ's biggest problem is locking onto one receiver and not going through his progressions.
So he may have gone through his progression on a single play. We have watched him lock in on a single receiver on multiple plays so i am wondering if you actually have a question?

Agreed, you can see him panic if his first or 2nd read isn't open.

had trouble getting past his 1st read w/ RPO dreadfully woeful (not completely his fault). He's progressed a little so that maybe he gets to the 2nd read? Think the coaches simplified things for him and also that the game is slowing down a little for him. There's been some progress...but not near enough. I hope everything comes together these last (2) games and whatever bowl game we go to.

I don't know what the bigger concern is frankly. The QB position and the O-line play this year have both been bad. If our O-line was on the same level as other top teams it would help with the issues DJ has in the pocket.

Very polite of you Bret. Unfort, I think you’re spot on. And I fear it may be more fundamental with DJ - not just that he’s staring down his primary target and not going through his progressions, many of us are concerned about and wondering if he can work through a progression.
