They have 5 programs ranked in the Top 11 in the country in the poles at the present time, with Iowa ranked at #3.
Now, I have watched a couple of Iowa's games. They have a really good defense, but their offense is nothing special. But, they haven't lost a game.
It kind of begs the question, if we (being Clemson, of course) had managed to scrap out the wins against Georgia and Nancys Tate, with our offense looking the way it has, would we still be ranked in the Top 4? I have to say we would not, given the precipitous drop after what on the scoreboard were very narrow losses.
What I guess I am trying to say is that ESPN has finally succeeded. Their vaunted "Eye Test" has now evidently become a major factor in the rankings. Stout defense is just not valued like it used to be. The fact that Oklahoma keeps getting ranked way up there every year while winning games without a defense should have warned us this was coming.
What this means for Clemson is, even if we right the ship to the point of winning out, in non-spectacular offensive fashion, it will be a tough row to hoe to get back in position for a New Year's Six bowl game. (I know, I know, we are nowhere near that right now. Just trying to squash pages of posts about why we are not flying back up the rankings when we do turn it around.)

the ACC and you are guaranteed NY6. This year Fiesta or Peach(likely) will have to host ACC winner since Orange is a playoff game. This assumes no one from the ACC makes the playoff of course.

Don't worry... teams will lose games. We just need to get healthy and try to improve on the offensive side of the ball. The rest will take care of itself.

Happens every single year. Every sec and b1g team that's undefeated after 4 or 5 games is automatically ranked in top 12. Look what's happened to Texas AM, then the golden child was arky and ole miss.
When you go back and look at the end of the year, those wins over top 10 teams are no longer. Kinda have to agree with them on the sec because they do well in post season. B1g, not so much.
Disagree if we were 5-0. May have slipped to 5 but it'd be because psu in 4th. Uga would have been 6th. Even 4-1 we'd be hovering around 10th.

Ohio State is now better than the team they lost to at home.
Clemson loses to UGA by 7 and drops 7 spots.
Arkansas loses to UGA by 37 and drops 5 spots.
I’m not sure exactly what means more in the SEC…..but clearly a 37 point loss doesn’t mean much.

argument as to why the polls shouldn't be released until a few weeks in. Also, a reminder that none of these polls matter only the CFP poll does and we are still a month away. Fix the O and look good in the 3-4 games after the bye before the first poll and we may be surprised at where we are come the first CFP ranking. Close loss to UGA, OT loss on the road to NCSU with an O that was having to be overhauled from last season, the committee would take notice IMO if we show we develop and fix those issues. Just don't know if we can fix all those issues this year. And when I say take notice I mean in the 10-15 range but that would be pretty good for a first ranking with WF still on schedule late Nov and possibly decently ranked.

Really good point. Now we just really need NC State to lose 2 conference games.
Don't think we'll be playing Cincy as much as I'd love to. They should make the CFP now that Oregon and ND have losses. Upsets always happen but cannot find a team on Cincy schedule where they won't be 35 PT favs.
I'm thinking CFP will be Bama, uga, OSU, Cincy... Because Oklahoma may win b12 but I think they'll get upset along the way.

Don't ever let it leave your thoughts that ESECPN will use anything, regardless of how small, or large and issue is. If they can turn it against Clemson, they will attack us without any mercy even if it means they have to take something small, and manufacture it into something big, or take something large and manufacture it into something that sounds even larger than it was.
Clemson is in the ACC, and the SEC is the conference that ESECPN throws stacks of money into for making the SEC their biggest money maker, and at the same time, they throw a few bird seeds at the ACC conference for the rights to pick and choose the ACC teams they air will have a greater chance of losing to an SEC team they will be airing on the SEC network, their pro SEC/ESECPN network!!!!
