Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I would think not. Even in the days of room board and tuition, it probably wasn't about giving a kid a quality education and a chance to improve his life, it, more than likely was about getting him to help me win football game. Years ago, I read a book titled "Meat on The Hoof". It was about a lineman that played for Texas during the Darrel Royal years. I lost a lot of respect for Royal. He was not the great guy everyone thought he was. If a player couldn't help him on the field, he had no more use for him.

Pollack's reasoning makes no sense. If Clemson, or another brand ACC team, left the conference, the conference would likely collapse. Things would then shift towards there being 2 mega conferences of 24 -32 teams as the SEC and BIG pick off the schools with value for their conferences. The Pac 12 couldn't survive this.

This may be where we're heading (TV/entertainment companies will decide) anyway in 5-10 years.

For all of these reasons, I see ND quickly announcing they're joining the ACC on a full time basis as they can see consolidation occurring.

Dabo is spot on. Also, the conference championship game already serves as a playoff game. Which 5th ranked team would have won the CFP, much less the 12th best team.
