I hope it work out for him at Oklahoma with Coach V.
He wants to pursue a career as a coach.

I wish them luck at OU, unless they are playing Clemson!

I will never wish OU well doesn’t matter to me who the coaches are. As long as any of them are at OU I’m gonna have to hope they don’t win anything. Maybe the next job I can jump on the bandwagon .

Any coach that leaves Clemson, and they left just to follow some there that had left to improve their status in an on the field coaching position, well, I've never cared a lot about people who follow, and most of the time following leads to failure, and anyone who left Clemson to follow someone to Oklahomo, I hope that is where they experience failure, and their choice to follow becomes a bad choice!!!

BV buying more Clemson assistant coaches cause he knows his OU never been Clemson. I support BV 6-6 OU sooner for next many years. Another ex-CU Coach gone no really loss Dabo can restock coaches like Saban does.

Sure, people can go wherever they find opportunities, but this is starting to be a bit too much.

I love Venables ... he did so much FOR Clemson when he was here, but he's taking so much FROM Clemson now that he's gone.

Hopefully this raiding of the cupboard is over now ...

Feb 3, 2022, 10:56 PM

With me, it's all about BV raiding our program, the program that paid hi nicely, and a school that treated him as his family very well. Just remember that the ones that he has taken from Dabo, those are just the ones that took him up on his offer, some that he offered chose to stay with Dabo, and if they hadn't our FB program could be is serious trouble, but BV has shown this far in his young career as a HC, he would have stripped Dabos' staff clean if he could have talked them all into leaving Clemson along with him. Why isn't he raiding other top programs like he has Clemson and Dabo. Brent Venable has proven to me that he's a Skunk in rabbit clothing. How many other Clemson recruits that jump ship when BV did, sign with Oklahomo since then???

About as much as not calling the hot line to see what my zip code is! If Dabo can’t replace these ‘coaches’ we are in trouble.

Agree. It's an analyst position, not a career job. Need some turnover in those spots on a regular basis.

Just remember that losing Losman and a few other "staff" members to Oklahoma allows Dabo to place people with Clemson ties in those positions. So JP Losman leaves and he is replaced by say Tahj Boyd, who would be complaining? Look at this as opportunities to get better and maybe new help with recruiting at the same time. Same can be said with Miguel Chavis and others, when one door closes another opens and who knows just who may walk through that door!

Re: Not cool.

Feb 3, 2022, 3:01 PM

Replacing loses with known quantities is a chance to get better. Replacing them with friends and first timers is a roll of the dice. We’re beyond having to roll the dice. How many powerhouse programs use this method? Zero. How many hire successful replacements? All of them EXCEPT Dabo. I see the offensive “promote from within” as a failure. Since 2018, the offensive production has gone down. Not up. I’ll trust the newbies when they prove they can improve our team. One game against Iowa State is hardly a sample. Kinda like handing the keys to a Lamborghini to someone with a learners permit. I’d have hired Lanning as DC and bought in Joe Brady as OC. But, that makes too much sense! Why have success right away after stumbling through the ACC?! Call me whatever you’d like. I’m a realist. I love my Tigers and will pull for them even without a single win. People always forget a fan is short for fanatic. People love sports like they do their children. Some more. Having a opposing view doesn’t make someone less a fan. It makes them different. For one, I applaud differing opinions. Variety is the spice of life. We all invest time, money, and emotions supporting our teams. When you call out something wrong with a team, it doesn’t diminish your love for that team. It doesn’t make you less a fan. I dare say that’s a fan’s job. To hold their team to the highest standard. I tend to have more of a problem with the blind cheerleader. I was called a lot of names for calling for Ken Hatfield’s job. I was called a lot of names for screaming for TL16 to take KB2’s job. I guess that’s part of being a fanatic. Some will blindly follow anyone while some will point out obvious problems.
All that said, Dabo has earned a lot of leeway. Eleven 10 win seasons is about as good as it gets. Only Bammer can claim more success over that period. But, I want to see three more titles. Sooner rather than later!

Feb 3, 2022, 5:51 PM

Spot on sir! And let’s be real here. Unless we find out who contacted who, we can’t really be sure of the reason he left. I if I had to guess, and again, I’m speculating, he reached out to BV when he found out Streeter was going to still be the QB coach. Unless JP didn’t want to be a “coach” versus an analyst that’s who I would have put in charge of being my QB coach. Not an inconsistent at best QB in Streeter. Let’s see… 1st round draft pick and starter for the NFL Buffalo Bills or Brandon Streeter. A not so great (but respectable in his own right) Ex Clemson QB who never played a down in the NFL. If Dabo gets out of the way and let’s Streeter do his job as OC I think we’ll be fine. But the QB coaching job should be someone else’s for sure.

Re: Not cool.

Feb 3, 2022, 2:32 PM [ in reply to Not cool. ]

I'm seriously hoping that the raiding results in a huge backfire, and it all crumble around them, with them wishing they never left Clemson. And if any ever ask to come back, I pray that Dabo tells them that there isn't a place for them at Clemson, and the reason being that they're not trust worthy at staying put where things were good for them!!!

This also has to be a negative on BV taking a job and not being comfortable at hiring his own staff, and he has to hire people that another man hired and trained. To me personally, it shows that BV accepted a job he couldn't do without transferring everybody from his previous job along with him. It also tell me that BV couldn't have been successful at doing it the same way that Dabo had to do it starting from scratch, and finding his way as he went like Dabo had to do it. With all that BV has swayed to Oklahomo, is what Dabo has built at Clemson. IMO it shows a very different BV than what we all thought that he was while at Clemson. When a man gives you the break that you really needed to help advance your career, the break that you wouldn't have gotten where you were, you don't repay them by taking what they have bc you feel incompetent in building a staff of need at the job you accepted. IMO, that's saying screw you to the one person that done the most in helping you with your career!!!

Through the DW4 years, and the Trevor Lawrence years, Clemson's offense was good enough, that we could have won everything that we've won DW4 and Trevor, we could have still won with any of the top 15 DC in the country, so I don't think what BV meant to Clemson was worth all we've lost that's followed him to Oklahomo. We know who the better friend to Dabo was, by far it was Tony!!!

Re: Not cool.

Feb 7, 2022, 12:23 PM [ in reply to Not cool. ]

Clemson done a lot for BV in the sum of over 2 million a year, and a Job as the soul DC at Clemson without Dabo's brothers or friends attempting to push BV out of the way taking control of the defense. That never happen to BV at Clemson the way that it did at his last job as DC, where he was demoted to assistant DC taking orders from the HC's brother that was fired at his previous job bc he done a chitty job there.

We just can't say what BV done for Clemson without saying all that Clemson done for BV, like left him alone to run our defense the way he wanted, that allowed to build a name as the best DC in the country, which helped him to become HC at the same place that didn't trust him to run their DC the way that he wanted, in fact, they demoted him to assistant DC.

BC of the way Dabo Swinney allowed BV to do as he please with his defense, it done more to help BV to become a HC than any DC job BV has ever had!!!

We knew this would happen. We also know Dabo has said for the last 6 years that he had plans if the need ever arose, he had lists that he updated monthly because when you are successful people will want your people. The goal is to make the culture so solid that when inevitably some people leave you have their replacements ready to go and more motivated to be successful! This is where I believe we are at!

The guys in the QB room were high on JP Losman. I liked him and looked forward to him helping out more with Brandon Streeter and the QBs. Hate to see them go, and I hope they find whatever they are looking for.

Ready for them to announce when the poaching will end - maybe when the season has started. Surely BV can utilize 'the greatest athletic leadership in the world' to help him find talented staff somewhere other than Clemson.

Re: TNET: Report: Oklahoma hiring another Clemson football staffer

Feb 3, 2022, 8:49 PM

I wish BV, TE, and any other former staffers and coaches who have left the program during the Dabo era the very best. Other than winning, nothing adds to a coach's reputation quicker than the success of his proteges (see Saban). Dabo's reputation (and the culture he's built here) is crucial to our recruiting success. Our motto for departing coaches should be "Go forth and win" except when playing us.

As a Sooner, I don’t like us raiding the Clemson staff either. It feels no different than USC raiding all our star players. Obviously BV thinks highly of the people he has worked with. Y’all do too or you wouldn’t be bothered by it.

By the way, people like to call us Land Thieves or some other disparaging name. The #### thing really isn't offensive to many of us and makes your fan base sound trashy.

Best of luck to y’all. I hope you do well replacing staff.

One thing about these coaches coming to Norman - it sort of has a bonding quality.
