Some of you have been vigilant in keeping up with my little Hannah who came to us with Down syndrome. She'll soon be 5 and here's yet another miracle in her life.
We had her IEP meeting today to discuss her recent re-evaluation and her placement for next year. She actually tested TOO HIGH for the learning disability range and we had switch her classification to OHI (other health impairment) for her to maintain services. She qualifies for this due to the Down syndrome.
She'll be enrolled in a half-day, regular ed 4K class next year. Her teacher will consult with a resource teacher on any problems she may have but she won't be pulled out. She'll get plenty of speech, OT and PT as those continue to be her main issues.
That girl continues to amaze us and those who are around her. The good Lord has blessed her and has a plan for her. She's really amazing

My wife is a Kindergarten teacher. She had a Downs

childs in her class similar to your situation. She is of the opinion that is best to mainstream a Downs child if you can, thouhg her student did require a PEP and presentd a few struggles for her.
My wife has also had two autistic children, and she maintains that they were more difficult to educate and deal with.
Speach and Physical therapy will be important(as you know) to keep in a mainstream environment.
I hope she is able to continue in the direction she is heading; sounds like you are parenting her for success.

Congrats,and best wishes for future success. I was an elementary principal in a school with multiple special classes. It was gratifying to see how well students with special needs were accepted,and how much progress they made.
