NCSU = FSU

I watched both games yesterday. And, I read the comments of the players and the coaches of both teams after the game. It is amazing how similar they are, especially the coaches. Here is my conclusion (applicable to both teams equally):
They are not quite ready to play on the stage they were on.
FSU is an improving team. They are playing much better than expected. Beating Boston College and Louisville and starting the season 4-0 put them on the stage where people were starting to wonder just how good they are. They are good but they weren't ready (athletically, or mentally) to handle the pressure of playing a top 10-15 team (which I think Wake is). Are they closer than they have been in years? Yep. Are they close to being ready? Yep. But, the lights were just a little too bright, the pressure just a little too much, the setting was just a little to tough for them to handle. It doesn't mean they are a bad team. It just means they weren't quite ready yesterday.
Change FSU to NCSU in that paragraph and the story is the same.
On the other hand, Clemson was ready. There were doubters. There were scoffers. But, the stage wasn't too big, the lights weren't too bright, the pressure wasn't too strong for either the players or the coaches. They were prepared and they were ready.

Another awesome analysis Bret. Heck of a game in Tallahassee yesterday. Hartman is tough to stop.

Excellent analysis. Both teams are capable of beating and completing against top teams. Both will have really good seasons imo... And agree that wake is much closer to being a top 10 to 12 team than not.

Good insight
FSU definitely has made a move. Wake got away from them, Hartmann is a real competitor, tremendous passer.
They are coming on. The conference sure needs it.
Will be a fun game with Nancy state next week

I think FSU is in a better spot, they seem to be building while NC State has possibly reached their peak under Doeren. It took double over time at home to beat Dabo and co at home last year with Dabos worst team in a decade, and those experienced players that were back this weekend seemed overmatched.
FSU has always had a much higher ceiling and I’d rather be on that ship right now. It’ll be an interesting game next weekend.
And wake is just impressive, especially for the school size. ACC is definitely getting fun to watch again

Brett, any insight why the big WR #14 (Wilson?) disappeared from the game after the first series? He is a matchup nightmare and really abused the Wake secondary when they went back to him in the 4th quarter.

Nole fans are asking the same question.

The only answer I can give, and it is just guessing on my part: 1. Wake was rotating coverage over the top on him. 2. Travis just didn't have a good night and was not making as many proper reads as he has in the past.

It will be a defacto elimination game next Saturday.
The team that can flush the loss the fastest and focus in on the opponent for October 8 will put themselves in position to win.
Looking forward to seeing this game to see how Nancy deals with Jordan Travis, Pittman and #14.

I thought we had a rough bit of schedule, but FSU's of Wake, NCS, and Clemson is rougher. Well, the season will start to play itself out with our next home game with the 'Cuse to set a new ACC home winning streak, but that will have to wait for three weeks. Three of the next four are on the road which always makes a rough time to play. Who knows what the weather will be like the first Saturday in November in Northern Indiana. Go Tigers!

Great post. NC State was already a force and The Noles are really close. Our game with FSU will be another dadgum good one as Bobby might have said.

I think FSU's coach and NC State' coach are cut from the same cloth.
Neither of them seem like "good people". Good coaches, yes. I think both of them are immature. It looked like Norvel stared down and glared at his field goal kicker when he missed a 29yard field goal yesterday. That never worked in the history of football.
Norvel is more likeable, but both programs are being coached by guys that are the embodiment of their respective programs. Makes me even more thankful for Dabo. Nick Saban is the only other coach I'd want coaching Clemson, and I still wouldn't trade Dabo for him.

I think FSU is improving. I think NC State may be at the top of their potential right now. I would expect FSU to be even better next year, but not NC St.

I agree.
Nancy will lose some of those 5 year players. Unless they are active in the portal; I think they end up being back to the "pack".
