Golson not visiting SCar.

No doubt the SEC by laws is a huge obstacle.

This is what Mike Slive said about a UT basketball....

May 8, 2015, 4:23 PM

transfer:

The next step, the graduate transfer waiver McKnight needed from the SEC, never came. The SEC denied McKnight’s request. UT appealed, and the SEC denied the appeal.

“I’ve made it a practice — this isn’t going to satisfy you — but I’ve made it a practice over the years not to try to explain publicly why we make those decisions,” Slive said. “We certainly make the rules available for you to look at, for lots of good reasons. First of all, it deals with some things regarding the student athletes. And I’m not talking about him, but just generally. We do a lot of these things on a regular basis.”

The SEC doesn’t allow graduate transfers, yet routinely grants exceptions to its own rule. The conference revised its requirements for those exceptions on May 30.

SEC Bylaw 14.1.15.1 outlines the requirements a student athlete must meet in order to enter the league as a graduate transfer. The following requirement, Bylaw 14.1.15.1 Section D relates to McKnight. It reads:

“The student-athlete has not been subject to official university or athletics department disciplinary action at any time during enrollment at any previous collegiate institution (excluding limited discipline by a sports team).”

What constitutes “limited discipline” is not defined. McKnight encountered disciplinary issues three times in his three years at Florida Gulf Coast.

So if Dabo had wanted to, he could have kicked Chad Kelly off for disciplinary reasons, and Ole Miss would not have been able to accept him??? Chad was lucky I guess.

Different situation...

May 8, 2015, 9:10 PM

E. Golston is a graduate transfer who should be able to play immediately according to NCAA rules. Chad Kelly was an undergraduate FBS transfer subject to the NCAA's 'sit out one year' requirement. A different set of rules apply in these cases and in particular a different set of SEC rules. Chad Kelly went to Junior College for a year to avoid some of the NCAA transfer rules. Golston can't do that, probably wouldn't want to anyway, but can't do that due to the fact that he's a redshirt senior and has no eligibility to give up.

I could , or couldn't ...care less about the transfer of some kid that had no interest in our university.
That the coots don't get him is fun and all , but look at what we sport at the position ...for like the next 8 years or so . Man , it is good to be us , eh Coots ?
