No one on the staff happy with "any facet" of the offense?

Nov 7, 2022, 9:37 AM

I think this is intended to convince everyone that they see just how bad things are . . .

I believe them when they say that, but my question is: Was that also true before the Notre Dame game? If it wasn't true before the ND game, then how did they not see it?

But if they did see it, then why were they always hemming and hawing about us doing some "nice things here and there" and "improvement on this and that," as if things were moving slowly but steadily upward?

Look, I know the staff isn't stupid, but let's face it, they're sunshine pumpers in their media interactions . . . and so when the other shoe drops, they are then stuck between looking like they didn't see it coming (is that true?) or that they just weren't candid about it before.

I don't expect them to be purveyors of negativity and doom and gloom, but there is a healthy and safe and respectable middle ground in which you aren't simply cheerleading nor
poor-mouthing all the time. It's not our fault as fans that we notice the dissonance between the message and the actual reality. We can and do respect them even still. They should know that. Dabo gets a lot of unnecessary flack (and so not every mouthy critic needs to be indulged), but he earns some of it, too. I think that's what happened here. We were given an overly rosy assessment (not idyllic, but still not realistic, either), and now that the truth is undeniable, suddenly we have the candor of "no one is satisfied with any facet." Yeah, but that's not new, and we don't like being told we we're hyper-critical for noticing it earlier.

Dabo, for some unknown reason, has never criticized DJ for poor play. The rest of the team has been graded as poor play but not DJ. Maybe that is part of the problem. If he knows he won't be blamed for anything, why bother.

Well, he wants to keep him confident. I’m confident of what I’ll continue to see from him.

My guess is the Staff, OC and defense Cordinator are both problems. Dabo is not going to admit but they are very young and Dabo knew we had a lot of talent. Unfortunately the staffs have made the team much worse. Players are better than the coaches. We have tied one hand behind their back. Most coaches would have fired both but Dabo will fix problems. It will take a huge coaching job as he will have to train coaches and team. He will do it. Not fire eather.
