Latest with Deshaun Watson's civil case

Feb 22, 2022, 10:55 AM

"The obligation of the lawyer is to protect the client, and while there is a criminal investigation going on, it is only fair to wait to see whether it results in charges or it doesn't before deciding whether you're going to submit somebody for depositions," Hardin told reporters after Monday's hearing.

I’ll be surprised if Watson has anything to say in court. If and when it gets to criminal court he will have no choice! I bet he eventually pay millions to get this over with. Hope he has learned a valuable lesson. With his money he shouldn’t have to look to a massage partner for “relief”!

I just don’t see anything coming out of this unless Deshaun decides to settle to get this over with. If they had charges they felt they could prove, he would have already been charged.

Deshaun will be careful and learned a lesson at 23 years old. I don’t believe for a second he forced anything on anyone.

A professional masseuse would walk out & not ask for more business if they weren’t treated right. I’m not saying he didn’t have contact with these girls but I don’t believe it wasn’t mutual,

Deshaun is a very respectful young man and has always shown that character to Clemson.

We should stand by and trust him until something different is proven.

Deshaun would have settled out long ago if he was guilty, in my Opinion.

Two things...

Feb 22, 2022, 11:55 AM

unless I'm mistaken, most of his accusers didn't file criminal charges which is pretty telling IMO.

Taking his deposition until the status of criminal changes is known is totally pointless. He'll simply take the 5th and refuse to answer any questions, so it's a complete waste of everyone's time.

While I am no lawyer, the only criminal charge I can think of is rape. Sexual misconduct is not a criminal felony.
So like O.J. he has to testify in any, or all of the Civil cases.
So you honestly believe that out of 22 possible lawsuits ,he didn't force himself on at least 1.Hope you are right on that because that one would have to be proven in court, and then you really get into his character, even though he would not have to testify.
As to standing by him, answer me why? And to your second point, do you really trust him?
As to settling out of court, if this were a simple one on one sexual misconduct case, he would have. But multiple accusations are a little more time consuming.

Wasn't it always "Innocent until Proven Guilty"? Shouldn't he have played until he is either charged or arrested? I'm not saying he isn't guilty but for this to last this long with no progress, he is losing his opportunities to earn an income that could be used in a settlement if and when that happens.

Just seems like this has wasted important time in DW4 career. If these girls are looking for monetary gain from his indiscretions, then they should want him to be earning money.

I know many may disagree, but if I were DW4, I would want this to be over sooner than later so he can get his future figured out and moving forward as his opportunities to make money is now and not in 5yrs.

Like I said if it was up to Houston he would be playing. Stupid not too. The NFL has not sat him, the cases have not been decided. No reason for Houston to pay him that kind of money to sit out. He demanded a trade and that’s what they are trying to get. Facts are different depending on where you get them. If you an NFL owner you going to pay that kind of money to tell him to sit? This was before the women came out with their accusations. He was pissed about the coaching situation and that they were unloading good players. Houston is in a mess thanks to the previous coach/GM. I believe it will take a lot for them to recover but they are banking on making coin on a Watson trade. The problem being is his future is in question.

Some folks just don't seem to get it. DW has a contract that obligates him to play for the Texans. For PR or whatever reason, they allowed him to sit and get paid (I would have forced him to play if I was footing this enormous bill, but whatever). If DW refused to play and he sits ..... then he does not make a dime until his contract expires and he hooks on with another team. Imagine telling your employer your not working but just keep the checks comimg... sure - happens all the time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Latest with Deshaun Watson's civil case

Feb 22, 2022, 3:34 PM

The point is this all started because Watson proclaimed to management that he refused to play. They could have threatened him with breach of contract but it does not appear that would have shaken him from his position so they came to a "mutual agreement" in light of his other troubles and trading him for top value seems near impossible until his legal issues come to a resolution.

"New Houston head coach David Culley got the word directly from the source: Deshaun Watson has no intention of playing for the Texans ever again.

Watson met with Culley on Friday and told him he wants to be traded, Dan Graziano of ESPN reports.

Although Watson hasn’t made that declaration publicly, it’s been clear for weeks that that is Watson’s stance. He does not want to play for the Texans and is angling for a trade.

Texans owner Cal McNair has insisted that Watson will remain a Texan, but at some point someone has to blink. The Texans could get an enormous haul of players and draft picks if they were willing to trade Watson, and with each new report that Watson remains dug in, the chances increase that the team will eventually relent and give Watson the trade he wants."

"Innocent until proven guilty" probably applies to more criminal conduct, not my word versus her word. But multiple cases, as with DeShaun, are going to take a long time to settle. And yes there would be a verdict, and it would only take 1 guilty verdict to bring him down, IMO.
As to playing time, I am under the impression is is still getting paid ,but do you honestly think he does the team, or himself any good playing at times like this.
