Is Watson ready for the NFL?

Nov 13, 2016, 4:01 PM

No doubt he is talented. Best to come through Clemson in a long time, possibly ever.

I know it depends on what team drafts him but it will be interesting to see if he goes to a team that will let him develop. The game is 10 times faster. His deep ball isn't consistent and he is turnover prone. That's a bad combo in the NFL.

I obviously want him taken in the top 5 and to win a Super Bowl! What is it going to take to further develop him?

Man, who's really ready for the NFL?

Just about all young QB's struggle some, have to learn and develop, and at some point - hopefully - emerge.

Agreed. None of our juniors are ready.

I am hoping...

Nov 13, 2016, 4:03 PM

he goes to a team that can develop for a year or even two before he starts. I think he will have a great NFL career though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No - but can we keep him upright for another year?

Nov 13, 2016, 4:04 PM

Our OL seems to be backsliding more than he is....

Re: No - but can we keep him upright for another year?

Nov 13, 2016, 4:07 PM

Losing two starters yesterday didn't help that. But the oline didn't cause his poor decisions.

Nope he needs to stay at clemson and work on his decision making. His decision making is the only criticism anyone can have about Watson

He is ready to leave Clemson. He won't get any better at Clemson. He will be in the top 15 drafted

I Agree. But I don't want him to fall in with those guys. One more year may could help him, unless he goes to a team that won't force him to start and let's him develop into the speed of that game. He's far from ready.

He probably will go to a better team now because hard to say if he stays in first round. At least Cleveland will probably take the first pick and he won't be that.

Re: No, but could easily be ready by Fall 2017

Nov 13, 2016, 5:15 PM

Unfortunately no! He telegraphs better than Western Union---that's why he leads the ACC in passes batted down. Also, he has no progression on pass plays---only looks for one receiver. Surprised the coaching staff hasn't worked on these two very fundamental QB techniques---our oppositions' DCs have certainly game planned for it!

I love Watson and his skills

Nov 13, 2016, 5:30 PM

Though you can't ignore he is making some consistent dumba** plays all season. I don't know the cause, because I'm not a coach. But I can see the change from the stands and you can't deny the difference in his play from last year.

Yes he's ready. He needs development he can't get at Clemson

Nov 13, 2016, 8:10 PM

D. Watson was ready to leave after last season. Not sure what to project for him in the NFL but pulling for him to stay healthy and avoid the really bad teams. A year or two behind Rodgers or Big Ben wouldn't hurt him.

year isn't going to help him with the NFL. It's a completely different (and boring) animal. What he really needs is to be drafted by a team that can let him sit for a couple years. Probably won't happen but starting year one could really damage him long term. I definitely don't think he's ready for that.
