NIL Impact will be interesting

Feb 2, 2022, 7:17 PM

There will be teenagers at Clemson and many other universities who earn more during their college careers than their total cumulative pay for 40 years after college. This will be especially true for college stars who lack the skill sets to make an NFL team (most) or those who are injured.

Make no mistake -- these top college players are now paid professional athletes the minute they step on campus. There will be some outrageous success stories and even more meltdown stories based on the (lack of) maturity of almost any 18-23 year old. And I would sure include myself at that age. Many of these kids will be taken to the cleaners by friends, family and so-called agent/advisors.

I respect these young men's athletic abilities and wish them the best. Hopefully, Clemson will stand out for supporting these kids with sound long-term advice.

I need help. What is it the difference between "image" and "likeness"? Is the difference between real, i.e photo, versus created, e.g., digital or drawing?

You are right about the potential for meltdowns. Hopefully, part of the NIL program will be similar to PAW Journey in that it will equip them with the skills that they will need down the road. More specifically, I hope that it educates them in how to manage the money as much as it does in how to make it.
