NIL. How it effects Clemson

Jul 29, 2021, 10:53 PM

Forget about the past, college football has changed forever. Players are now being paid. This will have a huge effect on recruiting. This allows the big money schools such as Texas and Texas A&M and others to put money directly in player's pockets. Billy Bob Chevrolet is giving player's $50,000.00 / month for advertising.
The doors are open for the big money boosters and fans to give players money. Recruits will go where they can get the most money.
I don't like it but it's reality. Can Clemson keep up? I sure hope so.
Go Tiger's.

Completely agree. I don’t mind the players getting paid but this just created more ways to funnel booster money to players. I am very fearful that it will lead to us disengaging from the game we love. This and the transfer portal will ultimately lead to a mass exodus of fans.

I do not think the presidents and conferences are seeing the bigger picture. An uncompetitive landscape of college football where there are only a powerful few is not good for the overall game. Heck we have seen this during our beloved Tigers run. Good for us but not great for the overall sport necessarily.

Well said. I love College football but I fear this could ruin the game.

Just today another Tiger, and myself were saying that FB season around the corner, and we're just not exciting as we use be with the FB season just a few weekends away. I know for me personally it has a lot to with this NIL thing, and now here comes this conference thing, and I haven't even gotten use to how the tranfer portal is screwing up college FB. It just feels sad as a college sports right now, and it worries me that I don't know if this feeling will go a way. I know back when the NFL had those strikes happening close to each other, and bringing in replacement player, I went on strike as an NFL fan, and I'm still on strike for NFL FB

Since Trevor is a good college FB memory, I may give up on college FB bc of the way they are screwing up, and just get into some Trevor, and some Jacksonville Jaguar FB. The know it All's have screwed up college sport, especially college FB, an nobody ever ask college fans what they loved about college FB, and college sports....

It is going to affect every school. Clemson won’t be able to compete with the deepest pockets but our brand will keep us competitive in recruiting for many years.

Here is the other side. Each team can only have so many players and the Transfer portal is already full. However, you will start seeing more players playing football in the future so the pool will be larger.

The thing you fail to note, and it is important is that these student athletes are not getting "paid to play". They are getting paid for their names on a picture ,or a replica jersey, their image on a poster ,or playing card ,and their likeness for say a certain fast food chicken chain.. They are not getting paid to throw touchdown passes or sack a quarterback.
Sure a player might go where he can make more money, but a lot will attend a school for what it offers academically.
They also have to consider schools like Alabama may be recruiting other athletes of the same caliber and position and so they might look elsewhere.
They may also consider loyalty ,such as their dad, or uncle played for a certain school.
They may consider how one coaching staff threw out the red carpet while another just paid a social call to gauge their interest.
Sure there will be that Billy Bob Chevrolet scenario, but who knows ,Lake Keowee Dodge Ram might just offer 20,000 + a new Jeep.
Rest assured, Clemson can keep up.

They might not be getting paid directly but they are getting paid. I hope you are correct that players will choose a school for reasons other than money. I believe the majority of players will go where they can make the most money.

The really good schools will figured out a way for ALL players to receive IL money. Having a player making thousands and the others who work just as hard not receiving any pay will likely not work. Clemson is one of the good programs that will figure out a way to reward everyone.

If the Boosters get involved in paying most of these players then you are going to have one WR, RB, DB, LB jealous of the other and say he is getting no respect and leave, so I don't think you will see too many boosters getting involved due to the pressure of always having to up the NIL money to keep the players happy. Word will get out quickly about a booster giving more money to one race or another and then here comes, the race card! What booster in their right mind wants that bas PR?!!
