Nightlife in Clemson???

Nov 9, 2017, 12:25 AM

Headed to Tigertown this weekend and I am bringing one of my best friends who moved down from Jersey. He has never experienced Clemson, but he is very excited and looking to have a good time. We are planning to hit a few tailgates pre-game, but I don't know much about the nightlife. What spots are best as far as nightlife goes? (We are staying at Hotel Tillman)

Something about it being the same bar as when they were in school.

Exactly how many bars does one person need, anyway?

I hit the usual with my buddy a few weeks back...there is a new place we liked called Sauced on the other side of the street from Tiger Town. It used to be another bar when I was in school I never went it. But they have craft beer which my friend was into, and they also have some slushy drink in the wall with grain alcohol, and some other stuff mixed in that is strong...and GOOD.

Another decent place is Backstreets.

We walked from what is the old Ramada through downtown, then hit Esso Club, then my friend's tailgate party. All of that was on the way from walking. You have to watch all the traffic because it is a hassle after the game depending on where you leave your car. From where I have parking in Lot 7 it's too far to park, walk downtown, then down to Esso Club, and to a party in Lot 13. So we just walked and hit DT first, then Esso, then the party.

Sauced used to be Wingin It, but changed names. The slushy drink is jet fuel and it is the fastest and cheapest way to get drunk. Avoid if you can afford it.

Wife decided to have “the slushy drink” at TTT Friday night prior to WF game. We were back at the hotel by 10...it packs a punch.

Oh lawd. The jet fuel is surprising because it doesn't taste bad but has a lot of alcohol. Sauced has probably the strongest jet fuel available now since Sandals/Friars/Franks was torn down.

She loves it. Isn’t there a country song about Jet fuel makes her clothes fall off...

As a recent grad, lemme help you out

Nov 9, 2017, 8:33 AM

What age group are you? Are you looking to throw down or just hang out and drink?

TDs on the end of downtown near the campus has good music and is a good mix of ages and drunkiness.

Tiger Town Tavern (TTT, "Triple T's") is the last classic bar downtown. It can get very packed after a game, but it also has pool tables. If you can make it upstairs, that is a much chiller, more relaxed environment.

Sauced is a throwdown bar. They specialize in litchers and jet fuels.

Study Hall is the "newest" bar and has the nicest facilities. They have a decent dance floor and you can also go upstairs (outside) and chill.

Loose Change is a nice bar that is usually slower and less crowded.

Backstreets/Overtime is back behind Wells Fargo and can also be a bit slower so you can actually sit and get a drink.

356 is a good party bar with music, dance floor and cheap drinks.

Lastly, the Esso Club is good if you are old or taking it slow. It is nice, but it is usually very slow once people start migrating downtown after games.

All of these bars are within 100 yards of each other, save the Esso. You can easily walk to and from downtown from your hotel, but Uber's are very cheap. Should be around $5-10 other than right after game time.

When you are sufficiently drunk, stumble your way over to Todaros to grab some greasy pizza to help you recover in the morning. Very cheap and pretty good.

Lemme know if you have any other questions.

Great informative post. Uber is great in Clemson. Definitely recommend using it. We get to the hotel Friday and never use the car (except for the 630am Bojangles run for Tailgate Pack) until Sunday. Haven’t had one bad Uber experience in Clemson yet!!

Yeah, I spent more of my money from my job on campus at TTTs than my parents should know about. Would definitely recommend. It's definitely your typical college town bar like any other place in Clemson, nothing to fancy, cheap drinks, pool tables, sometimes they have live music, etc.

Triple T's has a good crowd of older people, when I say older I mean 30's+ (sorry I'm a 2016 grad). If you're trying to see some football players after the game, they will be at 356, that is the athlete hangout bar. Check out Kung Fu Cantina if for nothing else, they have good deals going all the time (frozen margaritas, frozen jack and coke, etc.)
