Look at the formation

Nov 16, 2022, 10:08 AM

Most of the time, Clemson is not spread out like this. Streeter likes to call plays to the boundary (short side), which is advantageous to the defense. Using the formation in this play, it forces the defense to spread out, leaving gaps. If they don't cover the receivers, it's an easy 5-6 yards. My biggest issue with Streeter is not using formations to best benefit the offense. Too may tight splits, bunch sets, and plays to the boundary.

Nailed it. +1

Question becomes though, is the bunched sets et al Dabo or Streeter? As Streeter alluded to questions on Cade that he had to "ask " the coaches Yada Yada. Ask? Won't lie, that whole interview got under my skin.

It kinda pointed to who is really calling the shots on offense. Why would you not trust the OC you promoted?

Who are you saying has the advantage? I would argue that the majority of the time, the defense is going to have the advantage. Now, that doesn't mean always run to the field side, as that becomes predictable. Streeter tends to heavily call plays to the boundary.

Offense has advantage a lot

Looking at the examples in the website, we don't follow the basic concepts. Streeter, based on formation, doesn't utilize that space on the field side well. If you want to run plays to the boundary, the defense has to respect the vacated space that is created on the field side. When the field side receiver is basically lining up as split end, the defense doesn't have to respect the space and can attack the boundary.

I would get a receiver to the numbers almost every play. DJ has the arm talent to make the long throw. Typically, you see a CB on the field side playing off coverage. Throw more of those quick 5 yard out/hitches to the field to loosen up the boundary.

Again, if the defense doesn't have to respect the field side, the offense doesn't get the advantage of the space, numbers, and leverage. This also requires play sequencing, which Streeter doesn't seem to understand.

There are typically less defenders into the boundary. It’s a numbers game.

running into the boundary allows you to get a hat on a hat more so than into the field, especially at the 2nd level.
