It was 2001 when he signed but Roscoe Crosby.

Re: Biggest 5 star bust over the past 10 yrs

Feb 3, 2022, 9:54 AM

I would not put Ngata in that list. He still has plenty of time to prove that he is a five star or six star.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Its possible as he should start....but

Feb 3, 2022, 10:16 AM

Beaux Collins was emerging as the new deep threat at the end of the season
EJ Williams looks strong
Dacari Collins was stepping up in Joe's absence
Plus we got 2 strong WRs Antonio Williams and Adam Randall coming in

But will see

Roscoe was a five star-And I think he was the overall number one or number three Prospect per rivals -If I remember it was between him and the Williams kid Receiver who I believe went to Washington Huskies. Roscoe had it rough with injuries that his friends die in a car wreckHis freshman year. He was playing like a five star receiver his last few games and had the physical tools to be the best receiver ever at Clemson with His size and speed and hands.

Re: Biggest 5 star bust over the past 10 yrs

Feb 3, 2022, 12:54 PM

Crosby was a 5 star for sure. There may have been some random services back then that had him as a 4 but I 100% remember him being a 5 star. I even want to say he may have been ranked as the #1 receiver in the country by at least one service but I may be wrong about that part.

Like Derion Kendrick... he was pretty good, but we grew him and he ended up helping beat us and helped our enemy grab a natty.

That's worse than a bust somehow. Respect to him. No hard feelings.... but d@mn.

Why did he have to do that PI against LSU when we were turning things around? WHYYYYYYY

Hunter Johnson & Shaq Smith

Feb 3, 2022, 12:19 PM

Both didn't get to see the field early and as 5-star players you kind of expect them to. You understand more with Johnson seeing as TL16 was here.

Shaw Smith - was in line to do big things at Clemson; but apparently got homesick and transferred back up to Maryland. He never lived up to the hype.

Johnson - I am hoping comes back this year and puts it all together! At least, enough to make the competition for starting QB "something that makes everybody better"!

Chris Garocki, Norris Brown, Chester McClockton, several others from Danny's rock star recruiting class of '88. Dexter Davis was my lab partner. Carr was a prima donna. He dressed like he was going clubbing when he graced us with his presence (rarely) at 12:30 lab. I don't even think he finished the fall semester of 88 at Clemson.

Depends on your definition of "Bust".........

Feb 3, 2022, 1:35 PM

To me a bust is:
-Somebody who didn't have significant injuries to hinder their play on the field
-Nobody was "ahead of them" on the depth chart giving them adequate opportunity for play
-The talent never showed on the field

I'd probably agree with:
Hunter Johnson
Ngata - he shows flashes, but not consistent
Bowman

some commonly mislabeled as "busts" IMO
-Willie Korn - after his shoulder injury he was never the same.....I think he was a 5star talent prior to.

-Mike Bellamy - he was absolutely electric when given PT and touches.....his head prevented him from sticking around.........he was a 5star talent though

-Chad Kelly - he was a 4star first of all......he was very talented, but had a crowded QB room. He did pretty decent at Ole Miss. I think his 4star rating was accurate.

-Roscoe Crosby - Talent wise he was great, but juggling baseball and personal issues hindered his football progress at Clemson.

-Tony Steward - once he was finally healthy from multiple ACL injuries he was good.

-stephone anthony - he took a little longer than most 5stars to make a significant impact, but once he did he lived up to billing.
