NFL OT rule is terrible and not in spirit of competition

Jan 29, 2022, 11:44 AM

Both teams should possess the ball, any other way is simply unfair and skewed.

The play defense argument is fallacy!! One teams defense does not even have to be involved with this rule. Hit the showers D, we got this. How stupid. A coin toss determining a 4 quarter 60 minute game should not happen. Both teams get possession or it’s simply NOT a level playing field.

Player safety, shorten games, all BS. NFL just added a 17th game, an entire game, but worry about safety with a simple extra possession ??? Nope, that’s pathetic.

What possible reason is there, a legitimate reason, why this OT rule exists ???

The fact the players, the league, the organizations, all agreed to this cannot be the case!!! If so, then all those involved did not take it seriously on a Friday afternoon around 4:30 and ready to go home lol

Just a rant, nothing more. Not a fan of either team but that ending was simply the worst thing I’ve ever witnessed. Happy for Chiefs as they did what was needed and ended it…. But that doesn’t make it fair, the rule has to be changed

Nick Wright, who is great, had a good plan on Cowherd's Show

Thursday.

He suggested that one team picks the starting yard line and the other team picks offense or defense.

Anything is better as long as BOTH teams get a chance.

I’m not huge fan of college OT rule. Giving a team the ball in scoring position is a bit flimsy. But it’s superior to the NFL crap.

I hope people with influence, Nick/Colin and others surely believe what exists is lunacy.

Proposal :
Coin toss for offense/defense ?
Team choosing offense starts at midfield 1st & 10
No matter what happens, other team also gets ball @ midfield 1st & 10

If game remains tied based on first possession :

Both teams possess ball at the 2 point conversion, 1 play and game continues until the game is no longer tied and both teams have had an offensive possession.
Sounds simple enough to me but what do I know

At least that is fair and allows both teams that chance to score ?????

Play it like a regular quarter. The team that wins the coin toss picks chooses to play offense or defense. The other picks which end of the field to defend.
If team on offense scores, they kick off and the other team needs to match that score or the game ends.

That’s the old rule before this mockery of a OT rule. Apparently that was not a good rule, so they went this new route which is not fair to both teams. I don’t understand

The NFL is hearing a lot of complaints about the OT rules. I believed it will be changed in the off season.

The OT rule in the NFL never has been anything but the 50/50 chance of heads or tails. Nothing new here.

I'd rather watch the kickers play a game of horse for the win than what is going on now.

Never have made any sense of it. KC won the toss and game over. I think both defenses were gassed and the Buffalo DC decided to play extremely soft. I was pulling for the Bills but kudos to KC for making the plays. One of the better games I have seen in a long time.
