News article about Heydt

Nov 14, 2016, 3:23 PM

http://www.thestate.com/sports/college/acc/clemson-university/article114676983.html

Starting to catch on, but they also mention the Louisville game. I think it is 2 different situations but neither should have been allowed.

Confirmation bias. People can't complain about the supposed referee bias and then use someone writing about their complaining as confirmation there is something there to complain about.

Sorry this maybe tough for some to hear, but those complaining are exactly like the LVille fans that were castigated on here for weeks.

Re: News article about Heydt

Nov 14, 2016, 3:38 PM

I think the point is that If I, you, or anyone else that is a Clemson fan was a referee for a USuCk game we would definitely be calling every little thing we can while giving the other team a pass for similar play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No South Carolina fan ever wants me reffing their game.

Nov 14, 2016, 4:19 PM

Seriously. The amount of #### I would invent - it would be so complicated they'd never know if I was just calling a rarely used rule or simply making it all up.

Either would be possible. Western Carolina would win by 40.

At least.

Perception matters, and this guy can't win right now. He should never have been put in that position. They made some rotten calls - some big rotten calls, and now it got all blowed up because we lost. All is forgiven if we win, and never mentioned.

But we didn't, and while 90% of that is on Clemson, there's a percentage that falls on bad officiating. When that happens, and you find out that the referee might have been predisposed ($1 to MojoRisin) against a player or a team, then you have a problem. Perception is reality in a public situation, if nothing else.

Which is exactly why we're not refs! It's absurd to suggest

Nov 14, 2016, 4:54 PM [ in reply to Re: News article about Heydt ]

Mr. Heydt being a USC grad had any bearing whatsoever on the games outcome. Questionable calls, sure, but not his college affiliation.

Just move on and win out!! The dose of humility will be very beneficial!

Go Tigers!!

Read all the stats comparing officiating. Consciously or unconsciously there is a real statistical deviation in the way he and his crew call our games.

Sorry please speak for yourself, maybe you might but please don't speak for me.

I'd either call it fairly or request that I don't work those games because of a conflict of interest.

But that wasn't the point of this thread you started, it was to hold up the article as "proof" that there is something to complain about. There isn't.

Those that are look just as immature and silly as LVille fans.

I'm like you...I am not a "blame the refs" kind of guy but this is a bit different than Louisville. There were miscalls on both teams during that game...The Refs vs Pitt were extremely putrid and just down right embarrassing, so the complaints are valid. With that said, the fact the head ref is a USC grad I think is just coincidence.

This is what concerns me about the chicken game.

I don't believe they have a chance against us straight-up. So, with the SEC refs that will be tagging along with them, why not just tell their boy-wonder QB to take a three-step drop and just heave it as far as he can? With the way those refs will probably call PI on us, they are likely to have a lot of drives extended by simply doing that.

Especially if Tankersley is anywhere remotely. That guy NEVER turns around to look where the ball is and has his hands all over someone 95% of the time. How many times did he get flat out beat and PI flag thrown on him in the FL St game? Five?

The real issue is that the conference does not understand the concept of poor appearance when it comes to conflict of interest. Main reason why John Swofford needs to be terminated.

The fact that a USCjr grad called our two HIGHEST penalized games of the year (and only two games for that matter) is really making the ACC look bad on this one. You can't argue with the facts.

Which honestly was the worst one. I can almost give a guy a pass for thinking he saw something on the holding penalty (which I would assume the Head ref could conference and correct) also the head ref see the tone for what is and isn't a penalty when it comes to holding and PI.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He also didn't call numerous obvious holds in the backfield

Ethics...

Nov 14, 2016, 9:09 PM

You got 'em or you don't. Placing one's self in an environment where it is easily perceived that bias can be perpetuated leads others to question one's ethics. The guy should exclude himself from such situations. Apparently the acc doesn't have enough ethics to monitor this issue. Personally I feel the heydt ref should have excluded himself and since he didn't, I think he displayed questionable ethics.

Tigers needed to execute to win and they didn't. We will never know if poor calls influenced the outcome but the perception is obvious. Poor ethics...

Go Tigers!!!
