Didn't a fraternity start this tradition? Does that fraternity still have exclusive rights to paint the paws?

I remember years ago they were on I-85 and on some overpasses......until the SCDOT nixed it.

Either the city of clemson or the university began painting paws on pavement at exit off ramps in the early 1970’s. Not fraternities.

Sig Ep had the rights but they were throw off campus a few years ago when a pledge unfortunately died jumping off the bridge.

I just don't see how any fraternity can have rights to the Clemson emblem on Clemson property. What am I missing here?

The first time I remember seeing them was coming back to campus after Thanksgiving break in 1970 and there were some on the exit off of I-85 heading into Clemson. It does seem like one of the fraternities did it but I could be wrong.

spring break 1974, came for campus visit and students were waving people into the other lane so other students could paint the paws. Totally unofficial.
