New Story: Tuesday recruiting insider: More intel on K.J. Henry

Tuesday recruiting insider: More intel on K.J. Henry

The 5-star Clemmons (NC) West Forsyth defensive end is one of the stars on a star-studded North Carolina team participating in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas this week. The Clemson target is just eight days away from making his college decision – the Tigers might have the edge as of today – and Henry was honest when he met with reporters after the first practice. If he comes to Clemson our coaches will make him a #1 draft pick. Also load him up with hard ware, rings , trophies and national attention.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was it on tnet that USCjr was talking about hiring his dad?

Dec 12, 2017, 7:40 AM

Or was it another site?

I’ve always felt that was very short sighted action for any school to take.

Henry is the type of player I would love to have on the Tigers, but I am losing interest fast with the continuous discussion around his dad. It is a conflict of interest to hire him so put it to rest or go to Michigan where it is common practice.

Dec 12, 2017, 8:15 AM

If that was to happen with any school, what about the next big time recruit wanting a job for their parents. That would have to cause the NCAA to step in and close those doors, or it would get completely out of control. It could get very hard to put the lid back on that can of worms!!! By just Henry putting that out there the way he has, the NCAA should forbid him to play FB at a FBS division 1 school!!!

I thought there was a new rule prohibiting the recruitment of kids if their family member becomes a coach at that school within a year or something like that?

Seems like he wouldn’t be able to go to the school that hired his dad.

Does anyone know the actual rule or if that is even a thing?

Schools can hire his dad as an on field (position) coach, but not as an analyst or administrative role.

and it's still legal. What SCREWS USuC is, his Dad has worked a Chump Camp. That throws the 2 year rule in .

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It doesn't apply to coaches @ 4 year NCAA schools ...

Dec 12, 2017, 4:09 PM

read the rule.

13.12.2.2.5.1 Exception -- Coach of Four-Year, NCAA Member Institution. An institution or staff member may employ a coach of another four-year, NCAA member institution at the institution's camp or clinic regardless of whether the coach is an individual associated with a recruited prospective student-athlete.

Contenders for K.J. Henry not wanting to hire Keith Henry because of implications of impropriety , huh ?

Pretty much eliminates everyone but Sakerlina ...who not only doesn't care about their reputation as an institution of higher regard , they set the standard in the other direction .

@davidhood® What is VPI's coach makeup currently; 5 offensive and 4 defensive or vice versa? That will tell us if they're likely to hire an offensive or defensive guy.

Pretty brazen to acknowledge hiring his dad would be big on his decision. I guess it falls short of saying it would tip the balance.

Imo, this kid is not being smart. If he never said anything to the media, it's a non-public issue because he could make that clear to the 5 teams it was important privately. I'd bet he did that. Now, if the hiring follows his selection, it prejudices the school, and if the selection precedes the hiring it's just as bad or even worse.

He's also showing indefinable lack of understanding or bias to group our Tigers with USuc, GA or VT for developing DEs, or LBs for that matter. There no comparison if you look at the past 5-6 years track record of excellence at college level and NFL draft placement.

Our coaches for sure assessed his fit into our culture, so he'll do rely well at the next (college level). On the surface, he appears to be a bit of a primadonna, imo.

Hey bone head I'm as orange blooded as anyone on this site ...look at this kids comments we don't need
that kind of people in this program Dabo does a very very good job of screening these kids...we don't need
to hire anyones Dad to get them to play for the tigers....read everyone's post and you with see that.
common sense stupid.

Re: New Story: Tuesday recruiting insider: More intel on K.J. Henry

Dec 12, 2017, 5:41 PM

"Bone head," the kid answered a direct question honestly in that if his dad were to be hired it could play a factor. The kid also stated they have discussed privately that it would not guarantee a commitment.

Shame on this kid for being close to his family and wanting to play for a team his dad coached at, if it played out that way.

In no way, shape, or form is he stating a team has to hire his dad, and while I'm at it, Dabo would not do that anyways so it's a non-starter.

Dabo does do a good job of screening these kids, and he, Venables, and Bates had an in home with him the other night so I think it's safe to say we are still actively recruiting him and plan on accepting his commitment next Wednesday.

If you think we need to play here come the Bentley's then by all means knock your self out...ps bozo read the others post I'm not the only one
indicating that this would be a bad move on Clemson's part ...the kid has excellent skills but this sets a bad bad precedent for collage
football. Just being honest if that hurts your millennial feels the grow a pair. Go Tigers

For ##### sake man, did you graduate high school? I can't read half the #### you type.

Reading comprehension must not be a strong point either, as I mentioned that we are not hiring his dad for him to come play here. How hard is that to understand?

I agree that it would be a bad move on Clemson's part to hire his dad to obtain a commitment. However, as I stated, rather clearly by the way, we are not going to hire his dad.

Make sense?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That'd be great if he selected Clemson because he wants...

Dec 12, 2017, 10:04 AM

...to be on team with the best resources, coaches and can get him best prepared for the NFL. However, I'm not in favor his "free ride" if and only if this is a package deal to include his dad. That just sounds too much like an opportunity for a college to "pay for his services" through the family and sounds like you are risking getting your college on probation or disqualification.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

very sketchy hiring his dad to be a coach

I wouldn't put it past South Carolina, but his dad was a special teams coach and now he coaches RBs at Charlotte. Even South Carolina can't afford to bank on a guy making a jump that big and succeeding.
