New Story: Thirty-five days and counting: Why we love college football

Thirty-five days and counting: Why we love college football

We have Hill Watch, and people count down the days until the kickoff of the college football season with a fervor not seen anywhere else. We love our college football and aren’t ashamed to admit it. It's closer than you think.

I'll never forget the CJ -- Spiller chant in the 4th Qtr of his final home game during the TV timeout as he is set up in punt return formation.

Our country won't go on forever, if we stay soft as we are now. There won't be any America because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race.

BLESSED!

Jun 12, 2018, 9:29 AM

We are blessed beyond most people's wildest dreams with what we have at Clemson and what we get to call our great Tiger traditions. Can hardly wait to be there when the ball is spotted, and we start, yet another, tremendously successful year of stomping mud holes in the backsides of all those wannabes out there.

Notre Dame in the rain is one of all-time classics!

Notre Dame in the rain is a top 3 classic. For me personally, the #1 classic of the past 10 years is none other than the win over LSWho. That win was the biggest beginning for our Tigers making the climb to the top. Non Clemson fans thought that game to be a fluke, but very few of those fans team have played in the last 3 playoff games and playing in two back to back NCG'S and winning one. The fluke was those fans believing that Dabo Swinney was a fluke!!!! Gooooo Dabo, Gooooo Tigerssss, Gooooo Tiger Fanssssss!!!!!!

Remember ‘The Glimpse’

Jun 12, 2018, 10:35 AM

At least that’s what I call it. ‘The Miracle’ for Bowden. Glimpse of what Clemson football should have been during that time.
#3 Florida State upset.
Duke spanking.
63-17.
Tennessee Peach Bowl, first nail in P Fulmers downfall

It was kind of like that moment in the Perfect Storm when they see a glimpse of sunshine and hope.....

I was at that FSU game when we sang "We Will Rock You." If I remember correctly, that was the same game where us Hill-goers first locked arms the same way the team does at the top of the Hill. That was the first game I remember dangling our keys when the winning outcome was set. And one thing I remember very well is that Richard Jackson missed PAT after PAT, and I will NEVER forget the way we cheered when he finally made his last one.

As I recall, poor Richard missed PATs and chip shot field goals in that game. Clemson won it by about 17. Should have won it by almost 30! How about the NC Snake kicker missing it two years ago? How about David Treadwell nailing the Peach Staters two years in a row? How about Jad Dean downing A&M in the final seconds in 2005? Catman's buzzer beater against LSPHEW was super! Cat also clinched the ACC regular season championship against Wake in 2011, I do believe. Plenty of misses too. Cat against Auburn in 2010. Dean missing against the Coots in 2006. Unfortunately, Blewitt didn't blow it. And the FSU kicker who bombed one from beyond 50 in 2010. Quite an effort on his part. And there have been plenty of others, good and not so good.

It was so weird that Richard Jackson ended up being so inconsistent - earlier that season, he kicked 6 FGs against BC in a win at home in the rain! I was at that one too....such a boring game haha

I was sitting directly below our coaches box at that game, and our fans was having the time of their life when we broke that game open. My speech was no more than a squeaking sound for a couple days after that game. WE DID ROCK FSU that night!!!

Thank you, I'm so excited now that I think I'll be able to make it to kick off! It's a blessing for hubby and me to have this extra fun at this point in our lives. We started this journey 52 years ago in the old prefabs and it's been fun all the way.

There is no cure for Tiger fever - at least I hope not! 82-24 against Wake Forest in 1981 remains one of my all time favorites. Vividly remember the crowd erupting in laughter, not cheers, when the 3rd string running back broke loose for about 75 yards and yet another TD!!!!

Seems like the Tigers scored a TD just about every time they had the ball.
