New Story: Redshirts ready to fill the void

Redshirts ready to fill the void

Coming to Clemson as a highly-recruited player out of high school and having to sit out during the Tigers’ run to the National Championship can be difficult for any player, but for three of Clemson’s redshirts, the year was well spent. Full Story »

Chase and Davis will be studs soon enough

Feb 9, 2017, 8:09 AM

I thought Chase's HS tape looked better that Powells and Overton's and that's saying alot given I think both of those kids are going to be nightmares for DBs soon enough. Chase looked very smooth in route running, cuts, etc and had good hands. I think he's definitely going t be a name to watch.

If Davis has indeed added 20lbs without compromising his speed then he'd be in Vic Beasley's 20-240 range right now. As long as he can handle the run like Beasley did then I think he's our most athletic pass rusher from day one. He is unnaturally fast off the edge and has a pretty sweet skill set that has to have Venables thinking of new and inventive ways to confound OCs

I read that as Davis has gained 20lbs since he got to Clemson...putting him still in that 215/220 range, still.

So Davis is about 230? Let's hope he can put another 20-30 on and maintain most of his speed and balance.

Wonder where Chalk is in weight now? Leggett was amazing for us, and I would take a player like that any day of the week, but I also like catching opposing defensive coordinators off guard.

I know we are length and speed from our pass catchers, and maybe it's the old school in me, but every time I saw Cannon Smith and his 265 pound frame rumbling down the field after a catch, it made me smile seeing how hesitant the DBs were to engage him. I wouldn't mind rolling out a big 270 pound TE next year that crushes in the run game, and makes those Dwayne MF Allen catches, and punishes defenders....
