Radakovich talks CFB Playoff, Coach Raises and Facility Upgrades

Clemson Athletic Director Dan Radakovich met with the media outside of the Citrus Bowl facility following Saturday’s bowl practice, and he covered the topics of raises for defensive coordinator Brent Venables and the staff and the work of the College Football Playoff Committee. Full Story »

handle this fanbase and he knows it. I found out just how easy that whole thing went over on this fanbase the day it happened and nobody wanted to question it.

If we're going to be an elite defense we need to retain our elite coach.

GIVE THE MAN A RAISE!!

Dec 27, 2014, 5:34 PM

Quit thinking, discussing, & talking about it & just do it already ###?it! We will lose him & end up with some hs coach & have to wait a couple yrs before he finds his footing.

College football is a cartel with anti trust protections. I would like to see some signs of cost control for coaches salaries.

I don't want to lose Venables, but if NCAA limited HC compensation to $1 million, and top coordinators to $800,000 max, the Alabamas and Clemsons will still dominate, but the money will roll to the Colleges and allow them to keep tickets reasonable and avoid extra student fees.

If coaches want the big bucks, they can prove themselves in college and make the money in the NFL, much like it works for the athletes.

NO, no, no!!

Dec 27, 2014, 7:43 PM [ in reply to GIVE THE MAN A RAISE!! ]

Give him a bonus and call it a day. He doubled his salary coming here, isn't going to get paid much more anywhere else and we don't need to have the reputation of giving out big raises for doing what he was hired for. He's already one of the top paid DC's in the country. He wants to be a HC and if he puts together a top 20 defense next year, he will likely get his chance.

He is a great coach and no one wants him to leave. However, there is no reason to increase his salary at this stage. Clemson is not a wealthy program and needs to be prudent, especially when it can be done at no risk. BV is not going anywhere.

Michigan State not in the Orange Bowl? That is the question

Dec 27, 2014, 7:28 PM

he was posed? That is the angle he was explaining what the hell happened and how it affected his own school and conference? At this point, I don't care what Ratakovich has to say about anything now or at any time in the future. He put his head don and just ducked when he hear the Bayor fans on the plane. Same strategy he has used regarding his own fans and how they were affected by "the committee".

It's done behind closed doors and who voted how won't be revealed. The bcs system was flawed but better than this

the only way to minimize the back room politics

Dec 27, 2014, 9:44 PM

from this process is to go to 8 team playoff with the 5 big conf winners in, and 3 at large teams. Also automatic bid for undefeated season for lower tier conf winners. No excuses - win and u r in. There will be some whining w any system, but with this one the answer is " sorry- should have won your conference"

Re: New Story: Radakovich talks CFB Playoff, Coach Raises and Facility Upgrades

Dec 27, 2014, 10:11 PM

Simple solution........5 sixteen team conferences based on geographical regions and natural rivalaries with champions plus best 3 of the rest making up the 8 team playoff. Really only adds 1 more game for only 2 schools than the present system while generating more than twice the money (7 games versus 3) and being much fairer. Reallocate the 80 teams every 2-3 years based on actual on the field performance. If you screw up and break the rules then AUTOMATIC dismissal (read unc) and replaced by top team outside the top 80. Performance and compliance rewarded and cheaters and poor play booted. BTW DRad ain't one of us!

While I don't think it will ever fly in the US, I really like this idea. It rewards consistant on field performance and gives up-and-coming (non-traditional) powers a way 'in' based on performance instead of politics. At the same time, it has a built in mechanism to remove under-performing or misbehaving 'power conference' teams. Deserves some real discussion.

The reason OSU jumped Baylor and TCU is simple. For some reason they hsd put TCU ahead of Baylor, in the 3 position, even though Baylor beat TCU. So rather than face the complaints about how that could be they just decided to screw them both and put OSU up there. Problem solved. What a crock! Just glad I'm not a TCU or Baylor grad. As with the former system, this one has serious flaws that the ADs will not fix.

The explanation about Michigan State was BS. There is no rationale explanation for them to drop.
