New Story: Monday morning practice observations

Monday morning practice observations

The Tigers began their final two-a-days of fall camp Monday morning with a short practice in Jervey Meadows. Practice lasted just an hour-and-a-half due to the fact that the many of the freshmen were not in attendance due to freshman orientation being held Monday morning. Full Story »

Yeah. I would say Wayne Gallman wants the NFL.

I think people have consistently undersold him. His instincts were a little off because he was a converted Wing T guy and his instinct was to dance laterally along the line until somebody got cut in front of him...in a system where OL aren't just diving at a guy's legs and the holes open in a crease, the RB has to read the crease, put his foot in the ground, and make that one cut. He's got an absolutely explosive burst through the hole that reminds me a lot of James Davis - also his upright running style is similar - and like JD he really doesn't like being tackled and will initiate contact as opposed to flinching away from it. And he goes 0-60 so fast he can get to the second and third level very, very fast, which means if he catches a line he's going to go a long way.

And again, exactly like JD, I wish he had that next-level fifth gear, and he doesn't, but aside from that the only knock I would have made on Gallman was that unlike Davis, he didn't come in physically developed and needed another 20 or so pounds from where he was playing last year to make it harder to arm-tackle him. If his strength and mass had just matched his will, he would have been a very nasty piece of business to get on the ground and a bell-cow-type #1 who was easily good for 1,200 or even 1,400 yards on the year.

Obviously he figured that last part out. He looks good.

With the weight he now has on him...if he's got his programming right I really do think he's another JD. And I can live with that all day long.

I think he might be the most underrated guy on the roster.

Just to add to the fun, CJ Fuller reminds me a bunch of Reggie Merriweather...just faster. If CJ Davidson has indeed figured out how to hold onto the ball we might have quietly rebuilt our Thunder/Lightning/Reggie RB stable this year, or at least a passable approximation of it.

Gallman looks like he walked off the field in Orlando straight into the weight room and has been there ever since!

Gallman is going to need a bigger uni. Dang he's gotten huge. Some DC on our schedule just peed his pants.

I love what we're doing with the student assistant coaches. Keith Adams, and Terry Allen!! Those guys were studs!!

Also great grad assistants with Austin, Barry, McDanials, and Grisham!!

These legacy Tigers speak volumes about what a special place Clemson is, and they are going to be great mentors for our players.

Man, I'm ready for kickoff!!

Go Tigers!!
