Wasn't that what he said last year along with his team didn't need fixing....

His arrogance is astounding! When he gets "asked" to retire, he won't go easy. In his world, his team is still a top program, headed to Omaha!

One series does not a trend make.

[1]
Apr 6, 2015, 8:57 AM

Nor does it make a season. Let's see how we do this week before we go sticking out our chests.

Jack is so full of crap, goes 1-1 vs mid week low level team

[1]
Apr 6, 2015, 9:24 AM

yet squeaks out a 2-1 series win vs UNC, which is not as good as they've been lately, and now he wants to talk trash? What a turd. Just get him outta here. That game saturday could've just as easily been 5-4 in 11 innings for UNC and then we'd be staring at another ACC series loss. Go out and sweep somebody before you talk your junk.

Re: New Story: Jack Leggett: "Right now I wouldn't want to play us"

[2]
Apr 6, 2015, 11:33 AM

Jack is right though, right now other teams don't want to play us. Most coaches right now are wanting their team to play other teams that can make their team better for down the stretch. That surely isn't the case playing against a Jack Leggett coached team!!!

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link

He really dug a hole saying that. Now we have to go on one heck of a run

Apr 6, 2015, 10:10 AM

to justify that kind of talk.

I hope he's right, but it's hard to believe it at this point.

Lost 2 of 3 to WFU and lost to PC...I'm not buying it!

[2]
Apr 6, 2015, 10:47 AM

He's lucky that UNC mucked up Saturday night with a big E or we might have lost 2 of 3 to UNC.

Jack should have tempered his comments and said they need to play more consistent and get some opportune hits when men are on base.....the same thing he's been saying for 4-5 years.

I like Jack but he should retire or ask to be reassigned to a desk job in the AD's office at the end of this season.

Re: Lost 2 of 3 to WFU and lost to PC...I'm not buying it!

Apr 6, 2015, 11:36 AM

So does everyone else but that ain't happening. Jack will have to be forced out, he's not letting go his 3d base coach job just yet!!!

2021 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link

Unfortunately, I think you're right, it could get really

Apr 7, 2015, 10:01 AM

ugly as they try and move Jack out of his head coach position. He's clearly not cutting it. This team sucks. It's only the 5th or 6th best baseball team in the state. That is unacceptable. But he's so egotistical, he wont walk away or admit he's done. He'll have to be forced out.

What do the facts and stats show?

Apr 6, 2015, 11:27 AM

My comment is that usually the numbers do not lie. It seems we have taken a lot of called 3rd strikes with men on base in crucial situations. Is that true? How do we compare to other teams and our opponents? It seems we do it too much, but what are the numbers? Same goes for the baserunning errors and getting picked off. Maybe it is just magnified when we lose a game. Anyone up on that level of information? And it seems we make a lot of 2-out errors. That coupled with the taking of called 3rd strikes makes me wonder if the team as a whole is too anxious about making mistakes or just not cool headed enough. If the pitcher is wild, take the pitch, if not if it is close I think you take your chances and swing and not leave it to the ump. Again on the errors, is that really the case or does it just seem that way? It seems this is a mental thing with the team which of course comes from the top down. But I think we need to know the facts before we say it is purely a talent thing. I suspect it is mostly the "environment" on the team and in the stadium that seems to think and say, oh boy, here we go, how to we mess this up? That of course perpetuates the situation. Seems like we do better on the road, but what do the numbers say? I think we definitely have something missing in the team psyche area. Maybe Jack knows talent and fundamentals but I have always felt something was missing with his total overall approach. In his tenure, despite other programs getting better, we should have had more championships. I suspect this is going to wind up being his swan song but I am also the eternal optimist. This team is maddening to watch.

Sometimes critical comments are better left unsaid...

[4]
Apr 6, 2015, 12:57 PM

If your goal is to make each thing look like it is the coaches fault then make sure you focus on those items. I read earlier 'we lead the conference in hitting into double plays' Jacks fault? LOL no, complete luck and there is nothing you can do about it. We could have the exact same lineup in the exact same order and have half of the 'hit into double plays' that we have...has NOTHING to do with coaching at all...ask those in the know. "Why did he look at strike three?" Coaches fault...no again. Anyone who has stepped inside a batters box outside of their high school or little league days knows how absurd that comment is. When you have top level pitchers throwing anywhere from 77 to 94 MPH with good command and deception, 3rd stikes are looked at every day, even in the MLB. Outside of having fast hands and a good eye, great hitters are also good guessers. Why do you think they have something called a 'hitters count' or a 'pitchers count?' Why are stats for hitters so overwhelmingly high in a 2-0 count than in an 0-2 count? A hitters count allows the batter to focus on the one pitch the pitcher has been throwing for strike all day and sit on it. If anyone thinks you are going to be just as prepared for a top notch fast ball as you are for a top notch change up or curve...you are sadly mistaken. And....it has nothing to do with coaching. It is like a head fake in basketball....once you are in the air....it is over.
