I was thinking of Stoudt last night. That performance against Oklahoma by him has to be one of the great CLEMSON moments. A back up QB thrust into action with a new coach in his first game and a splendid performance against a team who earlier was picked by many to win it all. Wouldn't you say that was a very special game?

Ill never forget it. I was deployed and had watched

As many games as I could on afn. Unfortunately I had seen Coke stoudt come in and throw ints a couple of times. I didn't know what to expect. Hate to admit it but doubted our Tigers in O. I hoped our D could keep us in it. Thjnk I woke up at 2 or 3 am to watch it and then was obviously very pleasantly surprised. Cole Stoudt put on a tremendous performance that day. Great game!

Cole Stoudt was a decent pro-style QB when he was healthy.

He made some nice throws in the season opener against UGA, some of which were dropped.

He was never supposed to be the starter. 2014 was supposed to be Chad Kelly's year with DW4 probably redshirting. We all know how that turned out.

Unfortunately, Chad Morris tried to adapt him to the offense, not the offense to him. Morris called the same offense he ran with Tajh Boyd and Deshaun Watson with mobile-as-a-statue Stoudt. Combine this with our lack of a running game before we discovered Gallman and the offense was going to have problems. Stoudt was hurt during the season, much worse than people realized. He was numbed up for most of the Georgia Tech game and it showed.

ScElliott's offensive philosophy, on the other hand, is to take what the defense gives you. Tony Elliott is an engineer and that shows in how the offense has been run. Brandon Streeter has been a fantastic addition to the staff as well. The Oklahoma game was a preview of what was to come.

Exactly!! Well said! This is exactly what ive said since the game. As much as i loved Morris he wasnt the right fit for what Stoudt was capable of doing. Ill be the 1st to tell you that i wasnt a Stoudt fan because i dont like a pocket passer, i really dig a mobile QB and wasnt overly impressed with Stoudt to begin with but he had the game of his career and i couldnt be happier for him but he owes it all to Elliott, Scott, Streeter (& SMU for pulling Morris away at the perfect time).

Cole was healthy against Oklahoma and the Tigers were motivated to make a statement that night. Also, I think the Sooners were napping. Real good way for Stoudt to end his Clemson career.

Thanks for the info Cole. Gives insight into what Coach Bates is all about since I for one didn't know anything about him.

Very cool to have Cole's perspective on him. Bates is cool on several levels:
1) NFL experience. Recruits should respect that instantly.
2) He's "affordable" in the world of college coaches
3) Dabo continuing to hire past players and/or recruits from Alabama reinforces our family atmosphere and illustrates that our Clemson family will look after you for life.

One thing I love about Dabo is that the rare times he made a bad hire, or a guy who didn't get it done as we want, Dabo pulled the trigger and did what was right for the program. That included firing his best friend and the husband of his wife's best friend. Failure to make those tough decisions was the downfall of Tommy Bowden. Dabo does it right!

Well, I agree with the first part, and while I am fine that Chad went on to be a HC, I would have been fine had he stayed. I do think Tony and Jeff have done a great job, especially in year 1. I like where we are right now, even though we are replacing 2 Defensive greats. I think we move right along into further success, and yes, I know DW4 is gone, but I think we have things in place to just keep on rolling.

Great hire. Sounds like a good one. Can't wait to see what CW pulls on him. Hope we hear about it.
