New ACC Commish Candidate

Dec 14, 2020, 12:23 AM

The consensus seems to be that it would be a great hire, but considering how the B1G almost cancelled football this season, I'd like to know what his own thoughts on that were.

Well, he has a great name, same as a Clemson legend. So that’s gotta be a good sign, right?

Yeah, I was thinking about adding that part to my OP as well, lol.

Why would any entity sign such a long term TV deal?

Swofford really is an idiot

THIS ***

In answer to your question , only espn would sign such a long term contract.

acc contract = $

sec contract = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I don't know maybe good... maybe bad...

Just a few things that stick out to me about Mr. Phillips:

1. He has no discernible or significant ties to the ACC or tobacco row.
2. Lots of Athletic Management experience but the furthest South his education or employment has ever taken him is Tennessee - almost all of his job experience has been up North.
3. He has limited (if any) experience in negotiating TV contracts (not surprising as I doubt very few AD's have done this).

Mr. Phillips is probably a great guy and a qualified candidate but it does surprise me that the ACC is leaning towards someone that has no prior ACC experience or spent time in its footprint.

"he piloted the building of the best athletic facility in... etc etc" ?? Is that correct?

I would like to see that too. BIG always has a way of saying they are best at everything. Compared to some of the other old Venues in the BIG I imagine it does appear to be nice.

Northwestern's practice field and practice facility is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

You should definitely look it up.

It may not have all of the detail that Clemson's does, but in terms of the look of the facility and the location it was very well done.

I was thinking maybe Ray Tanner.***

The biggest plus...

No apparent ties to Tobacco Road.

I don't know if I like the idea of a Big 10 guy coming in with their Northern mindset. I guess we had better make the best of it. It seems I'm having to say that more and more recently.

Interesting coming from a private institution background. Duke, wake, BC, cuse, Miami only private universities in ACC... Unless of course you include ND.

No problem with the hire as long as he understands that Clemson is the gold standard.
